Can you center the image captions in Twenty Thirteen?

    Is it possible to make the captions in the twenty thirteen theme centered under the image without doing anything to the code and/or upgrading to an account that is not free?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    without doing anything to the code and/or upgrading

    No.

    That’s very unfortunate. It looks so silly, but I’m not going to upgrade just for that. I’m surprised that the default on all themes isn’t to center the captions.

    In contrast to your POV and to the POV of all those who purchase custom design upgrades for centering captions, titles, etc. my POV is that centering any of them is silly. I’m a contracted researcher and writer and if I spent my time of fiddling and tweaking as I see bloggers doing here I would have staved to death long ago – writers write – they don’t fiddle and tweak.

    Writers write, but when they publish they expect presentable results, and a left aligned “Kelly Shultz” under the image isn’t presentable. You can use coding in the so-called Text editor to simulate a centered caption. If you wish, I can show you.

    justpi, I would love to know how to simulate it in the text editor. this is a super simple sure and this would probably be my only image with a caption.

    I get what timethief was saying about but wanting to waste time fiddling, but that’s why it surprises me that the default isn’t something that looks more presentable.

    Sorry about the typos. I’m obviously not very good at typing on my phone.

    a) Remove the image, then re-insert it after you delete the caption from the caption field and select alignment none.
    b) Switch the editor to Text and enclose the image code this way:

    <div style="float:left;text-align:center;margin-right:24px;">
    IMAGE CODE HERE
    Kelly Shultz
    </div>

    This is a basic version, i.e. with your name as regular text. If you’d like to change it in any way (italics, different size or color or whatever), or if you’d like a border around image plus name (like captioned images have on most themes), let me know.

    TT is forgetting that a blogger isn’t just a writer. If you were a writer in say, a newspaper, then between you and the reader there would be proof readers, fact checkers, editors, art dept, production dept. A blogger is all these in one.

    As for themes and defaults, designers have to make decisions, and the decisions cannot always work equally well no matter what the situation. A left aligned caption fails in this case, a centered caption would fail in the case of multi-line captions. In my opinion, the ideal would be if WP added an option for aligning captions, just like we have an option for aligning regular text or images.

    Thanks so much for the code. I would like to know how to have a border around the image and caption like there are in most themes. Again, thanks!

    In some themes it will look better if you create a visible border around the box; in that case add this right after the opening quotation mark:
    border:solid 1px #999;
