can you change DNS back to WordPress.com?

**my question is not in relation to the above url, but a diff custom wordpress domain**

    Hi

We have built a blog on the domain: http://www.astylisheventblog.com; which we purchased through an upgrade bundle on wordpress.com – Transaction i.d: 1FV384827V785843E and currently the DNS is pointed to a blue host account – but unfortunately this blue host account is now suspended, meaning we can no longer access our wordpress site/blog!!

What I wanted to know was two things:

1.) Is it possible to point the DNS for the blog domain back to wordpress.com to host, as it originally was?

    and if not

2.)if we were to set up a new account with another hosting company like GoDaddy for instance, We were advised that in order to migrate the content of our wordpress site to their hosting servers, we would also need to change/point the DNS to them, but as our site is down, we cannot access the WordPress Admin section of our site to be able to do this!!, we were told that we would need to contact wordpress.com to find out how we access the Admin section of our blog/site to be able to redirect the DNS to the new hosting company.

I hope to hear from someone soon, as our blog has been down for 3 weeks now!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m a bit confused as to what you are trying to do. If you want to map the domain to a WordPress.com blog then follow the instructions for mapping an existing domain.

    Hi tandava108,

OK, so we purchased a custom domain from wordpress.com (www.astylisheventblog.com) and then we decided to host this domain through my boyfriends blue host account – which we did by simply changing the DNS on the wordpress settings to point to:
    NS1.bluehost.com
    NS2.bluehost.com

But unfortunately now the blue host account is suspended and our blog is down and we cannot access it!, so I wanted to know if we can point the DNS back to wordpress.com? – but by looking at the link you attached in your reply and a bit of googling on my part, it appears this may be possible? or am I way off? – bearing in mind i’m a newbie at all of this!

Yes, you need to change the nameservers back to the WordPress entries:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

If you still have a current domain mapping upgrade that should be all, otherwise you will have to buy one as instructed in the link above

    hi tandava108

ok thank you, but just to clarify i don’t want to attach/map this domain to my http://www.ilovenailsuk.wordpress.com blog. I just simply want to point the DNS for my other blog: http://www.astylisheventblog.com (which is the upgraded custom domain from http://www.astylisheventblog.wordpress.com that i bought last year) back to wordpress!
From what I can gather all i simply need to need is to log into the bluehost CPanel and change the dns back to:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

And hopefully this should restore the stylishevents blog and have it back up and running on wordpress.com hosting servers as it originally was – or do you think this wont work?

I think it should work if the domain mapping is still active. check the store->my domains under http://www.astylisheventblog.wordpress.com to see if it is still there

    hi tandava108,

yeah thats the problem i can’t access the ‘worpdress.com’ or ‘.com’ site for stylisheventblog at all – as both are linked together and the DNS are pointed to a blue host account that is down! lol, we are in the process of trying to reactivate the bluehost account, as until then our blog is down and floating around in cyber space somewhere!

I don’t believe we purchased any domain mapping when we purchased the wordpress upgrade value bundle for $79 along with the custom domain and a few other things, i don’t remember domain mapping being included.. but maybe it was – tbh i have no clue if i’m honest!

You should be able to log in using the underlying blog at

    https://astylisheventblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

  • Unknown's avatar

.. or whatever the original blog domain was!

  • Unknown's avatar

yes i know, but as i said i can’t log it to the original blog or the custom domain one, as basically i made the custom domain my primary domain, and the wordpress.com the secondary – so if you where to type:
http://www.astylisheventbog.wordpress.com in your browser it automatically re-directed you the the .com domain – but where the hosting is down for the .com domain i can’t log into either!

I expect that something is not as you suspect. What was the underlying wordpress domain for your blog? http://en.wordpress.com/typo/?subdomain=astylisheventbog doesn’t exist and is available so it can’t be that
