Can you change the order in which posts show up?

is there any way to bypass the automatic ordering by date and switch the order in which posts show up on the main page?

But you can change the date; there’s also the “sticky post” option, as well as the possibility of not displaying the main posts page at all.
What’s the reason why you want to bypass the automatic ordering?

Hari OM to All!
I have a similar problem. I have just started blogging and my blog “Samskritapadmam” carries lessons on Samskritam which I am uploading one by one. I have categorized them under “samskritapataas’ and they should follow a sequence from Lesson 1 onwards. I may have to do some additions/corrections to the lessons arbitrarily and this would disturb the order of the lessons. This problem I have experienced since the lessons do not show on the sidebar under categories in the sequence that I want. Would appreciate assistance and guidance from senior bloggers.
Thanks and Pranams to all Acharyas!

my blog
theene.wordpress.comits a blog where i write a chapter or section each day
having it in reverse order would be beneficial for me (so you see the begining of the story not the current part)is there a way to simply inverse the list?

Since we cannot change the post sort order, the only thing I have to offer is this: http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/04/how-to-write-a-book/

i switched to the Hemingway theme, it appears to be simple (which i want, no excessive sidebars) and include summarys for posts rather than the entire post (which are enormous)
this allows me to keep my front page looking clean, and let users have accessable tools to navigate the blog.

You could also use the more tag if you want a different theme:
