  Can you choose to have your main blog page show only exerpts of your post? or is that feature only available with certain themes?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Every theme has a detailed theme description page like this one at https://wordpress.com/theme/illustratr That’s where set up instructions for it are found.

  Most newer themes display excerpts by default. This Themes showcase filter lists all themes that display excerpts by default: https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/blog-excerpts and you select that setting using the customizer.

  Most newer themes also have the Content Options panel in the Customizer https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/, which allows you to choose between displaying the full post or an excerpt.

  If you want to display only post excerpts on the front page or the blogs page of the blog followed by read more links, you can insert “the more tag” into each post prior to publication.

  The read more tag can be inserted once only into any post to change the front page or main page for posts display from full post to an excerpt. The split in the text does not display to you in preview mode but it will be there after the post is published.
