Can you do something about the lousy quality of the images in my weblog?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

My name is Willem Brandenburg, (email visible only to moderators and staff),

I have a complaint. Overnight the quality of all the pictures in my weblog http://www.wingiv.wordpress.com has deteriorated to an unacceptable level. All my settings are the same, I did not change anything. Only two or three days ago I had excellent quality. Now I don’t. The sources are impeccable (Nikon, Kodak, iPhoto). I would like you to look into this form me. I cannot see any other cause than maybe a change of settings from your part? I hope this is temporary. Can you enlighten me? Hoping to hear from you soon, I am obligingly yours, Willem Brandenburg

  • Hi, I just checked the photos on your site and they’re loading normally for me. Great colors and detail.

Are you still seeing issues with quality when you load them? If so, could you snap a screenshot of how they appear?
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/

That would help me take a look in to the details. Thanks!

Hereby an image from my post of today. The image is not as sharp as it should be. For comparison I add the same image of 640 x 480 as I uploaded it.

You should notice the difference between the first and the second picture. Every single picture in my entire blog is affected this way right now.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Come to think of it: I don’t see how to send an example of a bad picture, through this forum. Can’t you give me a “normal” e-mail address? I send you a link to the bad picture i’m referring to anyway. Pfff, this is difficult stuff!

    Picture of bad quality

Hello! I am trying to get some happiness engineering here! Please try to find some time to respond!?

    With kind regards,

    willem brandenburg

  • Hi there, thanks for taking the screenshots. If you wouldn’t mind uploading them to your media library, I’ll be glad to take a look. Thanks.

  • Unknown's avatar

I have uploaded the screenshot with the “bad” and the “good” picture to my media library.

    http://wingiv.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php?post_type=post

  • Hi there – hmm, I’m not seeing any recent screenshots in your media library – do do you see them here?

    https://wingiv.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, I see them there. They are on top, two identical images. The top one is the “good” one and the second is the “bad” one. Please, try again.

    Willem Brandenburg

  • Ah, I see – they are just captures of the photo itself, I understand now :-)

While I do see the difference in quality that you refer to in those two screenshots, in looking at the front page of your site itself, all the images look fine at my end – they are sharp and clear.

Are you still experiencing this issue?

Would you mind trying these troubleshooting steps:

    – try looking at your site in a different browser, like Firefox or Chrome – do the images look OK?
    – could you try clearing Safari’s browser cache:
    http://www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Browser%27s-Cache#Safari_for_Mac_OS_X

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

I have tried Chrome: same problem

I have cleared Safari’s browser cache: no effect whatsoever

    How now?

  • Hi there, could you let me know what ISP you use and in what country you’re located? Some ISPs use caching software that can reduce the quality of images that have been cached, so that’s a possible culprit.

Would you be able to look at your site on a different network or ISP, to rule out a network issue? For example, a café or library or a friend who uses a different ISP than you? That might help us narrow down the issue.

I use Vodafone in Greece at the moment and I have used them before and I have used Turkcell in Turkey, TIM in Italy etc. I had and have never any problem with them. The same goes for all the times (hundreds) I used Wifi networks in café’s and what have you. NOW I have a problem with the quality of the images and I saw the same problem in a weblog of an friend of mine, so I would like to ask you urgently to look into “your end of the bargain” first now and stop asking me these postponing questions. Please?

  • Unknown's avatar

I forgot to mention that the weblog of my friend is also hosted by WordPress.

  • Hi there, my questions are only geared to help us troubleshoot your problem and find its cause. I appreciate you answering them, even if they may seem unrelated to your issue.

I’ve brought this issue to our developers who handle image management, and they are currently investigating. I’ll keep you posted here.

In the meantime, could you please let me know what kind of Mac you’re using, specifically whether it’s a Retina Mac or not? For example, a MacBook Pro Retina? If you’re not sure, click the Apple icon at the top left, select About This Mac, then click More Info. The model name will be at the top. For example, mine looks like this:

Thanks very much for your help.

  • Thanks very much, that’s helpful.

  • Hi there, our developers have made a technical change on our end that affects the way certain images are processed. Would you mind having another look at your site and letting us know if the image quality looks improved? To be sure you have the latest version, could you clear your browser cache as well?

    Thanks very much.

Yes, the quality is now definitely improved! Thanks for your effort!
