Can you fix it so I can access my draft "previews" with this new version?

It’s a total pain to have to deal with going back-and-forth to be able to view my drafts. Please tell me how to fix it.

By “new version,” I believe you’re referring to the editor that lives at wordpress.com/post. If so, there are two main ways you can preview your posts.
First, you can preview your posts from this page:
https://wordpress.com/posts/my/drafts/doodlemeister.wordpress.com
That should show you all of your drafts with a “Preview” link that opens in a new tab.
Second, when you’re editing a post or page, you can preview that work using the button here:
