Can you get read count stats for individual articles within a blog?
-
Is it possible to get statistics of how many people have read a particular article within a blog that has more than one article published?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. Go to Stats > View All as usual, then under “Top posts & pages”, click on the small “graph” icon next to the title of the post in question.

Since your site only has two Posts and the full text is displayed visitors can read both Posts completely and you will not have any indication of what they have read other than someone visited your home page unless they leave a comment.
You can use the “more” tag to shorten the way the Post’s are shown on the front page (also makes the front page not so long), then visitors will need to click on the Post to read the whole Post.

Hello! Erm…I have a similar question but sort of the other way round! My home page shows summaries of my full post with the “Continue to read” link to get to the full post. So, I’m looking at my stats page and it shows many views to my homepage but very few views on actual posts. So does that mean that visitors are just coming over to the Home page and not clicking the Continue to read to get to the full post?
OR does it mean that even if they click the Continue to read it won’t show as a visit to the post but just be taken as a visit to the Home page?
Sigh! Did I just make that very confusing, because I think I just confused myself!!
Any help will be greatly appreciated though!!

The visitors are getting to home page but not clicking to a Post –
However – keep in mind that you have 10 Posts on the opening page so any clicks will be divided between those 10 Posts – i.e. is every visitor to your home page clicked on One Post and it was distributed evenly you would have 10 Posts with one view each.

So..if every of the 40 visitors that my Top Posts and Pages says I’ve had go to my homepage, and all 40 read my latest post for the day in full then….I’d have 4 views each in each of the 10 posts displayed on my Homepage ?

Why don’t post/page views add up to total views?
Post/page views are included in total views, but there are many views to your site that are not a post or page URL. The front pages, category/tag/date/author archives, and searches are all examples of other views that only count towards total views. http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/#additional-info -
Hi timetheif!!!
Please don’t hate me…I actually think you’re awesome, I see you helping out so many people and that’s awesome.
What’s not awesome is that I am sometimes terribly slow…
I get that Total Views may not be the same as the number of views added up for the reasons you have given above.
I’m just not getting it in relation to what my question is :(
Here’s what I mean:
When I go to my Site Stat page, on the right hand side is the box titled Top Posts and Pages.
It has 2 tabs, Today and Yesterday
So, I look at Today’s numbers
It has the titles on one side of the box and the little clickable graph and then the number of Views
The top most “Title” is Homepage. Every time, its this “Homepage” title that is getting the most views, say for example 80 Views
The second in line is the Title “Post A” with say 6 Views. Then Title Post B with say 5 Views, and so on and so forth.
Right at the bottom of the box it gives me the “Total views of posts in your blog”. I get that the total there may not be the same as the total views because some click are not registered like category, tag etc.
My question is: Does this mean that 80 people only viewed my Home page which has summaries of 10 of my posts while only 6 ( I assume from the 80) read Post A and 5 of the ( I assume 80 again) read Post B?
I ask this because, I’m wondering if it is a deterrent to use the “More tab” as visitors to my Home page might not be bothered to click on the “Continue to Read” to get to the full post.
OR
Did all of the 80 visitors to my “Homepage” actually click to read full posts but its not counted as a view in Post A and Post B
Meaning
If a person went straight to the full post, only then its considered a view of the post, if the person went to the full post from my Homepage, it’s considered a view for Homepage and not Post A or Post B.
Or is this all together a very stupid question?? :(

wordpress.com stats reflect page views.
If I click in to your front page and then read a post excerpt on that page and click the read more link at the bottom of a post that’s 2 page views. 1 page view for front page and 1 page view of the whole post on it’s own page.
If I click in on the URL to a specific post on your front page it’s one one page view because the complete post is displayed to me on it’s own page.
What is a page view? A page view is a request to load a single page of an internet site that results from a page request from a web surfer clicking on a link on another HTML page which is pointing to the page in question.
What is a hit? In web analytics, a hit is any request for a file from a web server. By request means a hit calculates page content delivered, all images to complete that page, and any additional files that need to be loaded to make the web page you are looking at, appear the way it does.
What is a unique visitor? A unique visitor is access from a single IP to a web server that generates page views and hits during a particular visit. When a visitor has cookies disabled, there is no way of establishing if they are a unique visitor or not.
IMHO I am not the best person to answer this question. I do view my stats a lot but I am not mathematically inclined and as I don’t have monetized blogs I don’t bother with analytics. Only 1 occasional reader, who had never commented before or after, complained about me choosing to display only excepts on my front page.

Dear timetheif,
Thank you, Thank You. THANK YOU.
I have I mentioned that you’re awesome? Oh, I have. Well, let me still say that you are awesome!
I suspected that the Front page / Homepage views had nothing to do with the actual post views but I really, really wasn’t too sure!
Thanks for clearing that up – now I just need to figure out *why* and *who* all these people are that are coming to my Homepage but no bothering to look at any full post…maybe it’s time I make those first few lines in my post really enticing!!
Thanks again!! :)
