can you have a NO COMMENTS blog?

I just want a “one way” blog. No commenting. Is this possible on WordPress?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes. To be more specific, we need a link to your blog, starting with http. We pretty much always need that.

just wondering where in the settings you can change this

we need a link to your blog, starting with http. It depends.

Rather than start a new thread, I’ll just hijack this one, since it’s the topic I’m interested in.

This is URL of my blog.

    http://fdrliberated.wordpress.com

This blog partners with an on-line forum. At the end of each blog post, I ask for comments with a note that points to a related thread on that forum. In other words, I use the blog entry to drive traffic there, but I also benefit–since it’s a full-fledged forum–from a more robust discussion.

Still, at the top of each of my post is still the automatically generated date and “Leave a Comment” line appears at the top. It looks like I’ve successfully disabled it, but the line is still there. Is there any way to turn that off?

You could be in trouble; staff have said in the past that any blog here whose primary purpose is to drive traffic to an external site can be deleted or suspended. I think that’s mostly for people trying to herd readers to their Get Rich Quick sites, but it’s entirely at Staff discretion.

As for that line, it varies from theme to theme, but is always there in some form; sometimes it says “0 comments”.

Thanks for the reply! I hope I’m safe–my blog is the primary purpose for my blog, period. It does not exist to drive traffic–it is the end destination. It’s immaterial to me whether people want to comment or conact me. Like all blogs–I just want them to read it.

However, because of the weighty topics it discusses, it makes more sense to offload conversation about that material to a forum Website. That forum is free and sells nothing.

I apologize for misleading you in my earlier message–I said that the purpose of the blog entry is to drive traffic when I should have said that’s the purpose of comments link only, and then only for conversation purposes.

At any rate, any staff member trying to follow the money will quickly discover there ain’t none! :-)

    Thanks again for your insight.

Actually the free forum has ads on it, but since you do not receive money from it I don’t think it is an issue.

I would still suggest contacting staff directly on this though just to make sure. http://support.wordpress.com/contact/

Thanks for your thoughtful reply. After thinking about it and experimenting further with wordpress.com, I’ve decided to go all in. :-)

I have a URL and a host site now and will transfer the blog over there. WordPress 2.8 looks too good and I appreciate having the extra control.

    Thanks again!
