Can you help me figure out what I'm doing wrong re-embedding tweets?

    Hey,
I’ve looked up the directions on how to embed tweets in your support section (it says to just paste the link on its own line), but can’t seem to make it work. I’ve also referred to this spot for a few other methods:
    http://mashable.com/2012/10/08/twitter-wordpress-integration/
But I’m having trouble embedding both other peoples’ tweets or my own.
Once, a few months ago, I got it to work but I can’t remember which of the methods I used (it was from the link I pasted above). Now, none of them seem to work.
OR maybe things are different now? Last time, I was able to view the tweet image as it would look once the post was uploaded. But now I can’t get anything to happen when I paste anything on its own line.
FYI – I’m on a Mac, using Safari. (And I was the last time I got the tweet to imbed properly)
I’m assuming it’s my fault and I’m doing something wrong, but don’t know what and would appreciate your help. I hope to post an entry early next week that will hopefully involve embedded tweets. Last time, I just settled on having the link there for readers to click on, but it doesn’t look nearly as professional.
    Thanks in advance,
    Blair

  • Hi,

That’s correct—you need to paste the link to the tweet on a line by itself. It’ll need to be full “permalink” to the tweet, found by clicking the time on a tweet.

One common problem that trips folks up is that the link to the tweet needs to be in plain text, not a link. So, after pasting the link, if you click on it and then click on the “break link” icon, that often will resolve the issue. (The break link icon is the one just to the right of the link icon in the editor).

Does that help? If not, can you send me a link to the post where the embedded tweet isn’t working right?

    Thanks!

Helpful – thanks. but I’m wondering: When I’m doing my “New Post”, will it just look like the link on its own line until I post it, and THEN it will look like a properly imbedded tweet, or should it already look like an embedded tweet in “New Post” mode, prior to posting/updating?

I’m doing what you say (helpful, again) but it just stays as the link, not an embedded tweet. Is this normal, and then it will look correct once posted? (I don’t want to post a messy test run).
    Thanks in advance again,
    Blair

  • Howdy,

It won’t render as the tweet until after it is published, when you’re viewing your page. In the editor, it’ll remain only the URL. If it’s linked, it’ll display only the link.

    Cheers!
