Can you help me with a 301 redirect?
-
Hi! I have been blogging at wordpress.com for about 18 months. About a week ago I transferred to wordpress.org through Hostpapa. I have set up Jetpack and I can view my followers and stats and all of those things but only have the information since I migrated. All of my previous followers & stats are only visible from my “.com” dashboard. I would like to do a site redirect ($13, right?) to remedy the problem but, when I try, I get an error message that tells me domain mapping already exists so I can’t redirect. Can you help me navigate this process so that my blog doesn’t lose all of the good followers and stats that I’ve spent so long building? Thank you!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The bad news is that a site redirect is not what you are looking for.
The good news is that I can help you fix this issue.
Just to clarify, is this correct:
Old Site – lazyhippiemama.wordpress.com
New Site – lazyhippiemama.com -
Great! An update… I did get a note from wordpress this morning that my followers have been migrated successfully and they are showing up on my dashboard now. However, my stats are still set as though my blog were only a few days old and I’m told that people trying to link in to old posts are still getting 404 messages.
I was originally lazyhippiemama.wordpress.com and several months ago bought my domain (but was still hosted at wordpress) so that I would be lazyhippiemama.com.
Then, about 2 weeks ago, I moved my hosting but I am still lazyhippiemama.com and still using wordpress as my platform. -

The above is a link from a babycenter story:

to my blog that no longer seems to work.

Here is another, from a Pinterest post:

It looks like you did not keep your permalink structure the same when you set up your self-hosted site. I see that post as existing, but with this URL:
http://lazyhippiemama.com/?p=2277
Since the http://lazyhippiemama.com/2013/05/21/diy-toddler-swing-from-recycled-materials/ URL doesn’t existing on your new site, you are going to see those 404 errors on any existing links to that page.
Does that make sense?

Uhm… no. I totally don’t speak tech! LOL. I didn’t purposely change anything. I just exported/imported. Can I fix this?!

I was just re-reading this and wondering about the original question, as well. Is there any way to retain my stats and so forth so that the search engines don’t think I’m brand new? My stats look as though I’m only days old.
-
Yes, that is possible. However, your post ID’s need to match. At the moment, they do. But you are going to need to decide what you are going to do about the permalink issue. If you end up wanting to delete and re-import, you will need to make sure that the post ID’s remain the same.
A great resource for self-hosted WordPress questions is here:
Lots of great people there with lots of great suggestions.

Yes, the forum is where I was told to write to support and get help with a 301 re-direct so I could fix up my stats and links.

Transferring subscribers and stats (via Jetpack) is something that we at WordPress.com can help you with. So using the WordPress.com support forums is the right place for that.
However, due to the fact that we do not have access to your servers or files, we cannot provide support for WordPress.org related setup or import questions. Which is why I directed you to the WordPress.org support forums. Many people there have been through the exact same process and will have plenty of advice for you.
However, I think what it all boils down to is, if you go into your self-hosted site’s dashboard and click on Settings > Permalinks, you should be able to set your self-hosted site’s permalinks to match your old WordPress.com links. Then your old links would work again and stop showing 404 errors.
Once you’ve got that set (or you just decide to say “forget about it”), we can transfer stats.

Ah! I’m so happy! All I needed was for someone to tell me where to click! OK. All my old links are live and you are my hero. If you can make my stats import I’ll build a monument in your honor! For now… I’m just thrilled that all my posts and links and referrers and such are doing what they’ve always done again. Tell your boss I said you deserve a raise! ;)

Happy to help!
Thank you for the kind words, you are very sweet.
I have merged your stats, let me know if everything looks as it should.
