can you help with website construction difficulties?
-
I’m trying to set up a simple website at teresahartoriginals.wordpress.com and am having difficulty with the following:
I’d like my page to be full width…no right side widget.
I can’t get my completed and published pages to display in the view or preview… or link to the menu?
I’d like to remove the comment box at the bottom of the pages.
I’ve spent a lot of time trying to figure this out so I’d be grateful for any help.

That is determined by your theme. Look under Appearance ->Theme Options. If you can disable the sidebar, the option will be there under Layout. If you don’t see Theme Options or there isn’t any layout options it means your theme can’t be customised this way. You can search the theme gallery for themes that have a full-width layout by applying the appropriate filter: https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/one-column/

Can you please provide some more information. What are the URLs of the pages that won’t display. Do you mean those pages don’t appear in your menu? If you’ve set up a custom menu you may need to add those pages to the menu manually. See here for instructions to do that: http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

See here for instructions how to enable and disable comments on individual posts and pages. If you disable comments the comment box won’t appear.

Thank you for your response.
So far I’ve been able to accomplish the full width layout…yay!
The url of the first page on the list of published pages that I can’t view or connect to the parent menu is below.

I have unchecked all the comment boxes under Settings….Discussion and still have a comment box on my home page?
Any other ideas?

Those settings only apply to new posts and pages. For posts and pages that are already published you have to edit each one individually to disable comments. Instructions for that are further down in the same support doc I linked to above: http://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-disable-comments/

First off, I can’t access that URL as it points to your dashboard, not to a published post or page on your site, but that’s irrelevant as the URL you gave here is for a POST, not a PAGE. Posts are dynamic. They appear in your blog’s feed and are meant to be regularly updated. While you can include links to individual posts in your menu, that’s not what posts are designed for.
Pages, on the other hand, are static. They are meant for content that doesn’t change regularly and they are what usually appears in your blog’s menu.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/If the info in the posts that aren’t in the menu are stuff that you intend to be on the site for a long time, consider changing them to pages instead. You’ll need to edit each post, copy the content, then create a new page, paste the info there and publish the page. Then the pages should appear in your menu automatically or you can add them manually via the custom menu.
If for some reason you need to keep those as posts, you can also add them to the menu under Appearance ->Menus in the dashboard. If you don’t see the option to add posts when you’re on that screen, click on Screen Options at the top of the screen and make sure Posts are selected.

Another problem solved….I have removed the comment boxes from all pages…thank you!
My pages are pages…not posts and the “permalink” address to the first one is https://teresahartoriginals.wordpress.com/home-2/news/
When I click on “view” the info isn’t on the published page?

When I click on “view” the info isn’t on the published page?
That page currently displays an email address and a phone number. Are you saying there should be more info?
Then I notice that page occurs twice in your menu: under ‘About the Author’ and under ‘Original Art ->Floral’. Most of the links under ‘Floral’ in the menu also leads back to your home page.
I want to suggest you do your menu over from scratch. First, go to Pages ->All Pages in the dashboard (http://teresahartoriginals.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=page). Edit each page in turn, and make sure that in the Page Attributes module under Parent you have selected No Parent and that the Page Order is 0. Also double-check that each page is published.
Then go to Appearance ->Menus. Delete the current menu (link is right at the bottom of the page). Then you create a new menu and add in each of the pages. You can drag-and-drop the pages to re-order and create child pages. Make sure you set that as your primary menu and save the menu.
This shouldn’t take too long and will sort out the menu links that aren’t pointing anywhere at present. Refer to this article I linked earlier if you have any trouble with the menu: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/

Thank you so much for your patient coaching. I now have the site I’ve been working towards since October!
Cheers,
