Can you insert Slideshows and separate pictures in 1 blog?

    I am trying to add a slideshow in one part of my blog but also add some separate pictures in another part. When I try to do it, the separate pictures end up in the slideshow. If I delete them from the gallery, it deletes them from the Media file altogether so it seems like I can only have either all pictures in a slideshow or all separate. Am I missing something?

    Don’t upload the “separate” images via the Add an Image button of the post editor: upload them via Media > Add New, then go to the post editor, click Add an Image, click Media Library, click Show, insert.
