Can you make pages sticky so they will be shown in the slider?
-
Hey folks,
I’ve had a trawl of the forums and support pages and can’t seem to find an answer to this.
As background, I’ve just changed the theme of my blog (http://fatcanyoners.org/) to Sight (http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/sight/), which I think is a brilliant theme. Sight has a slider on the front page, for sticky posts. I was hoping to also have some of my pages show up in the slider, but I can’t seem to find any way of making a page sticky (which seems to be required for them to appear). Is there any way to do this? Is there another way around this? Is this one of those situations where someone will say “if your site was self hosted…”?
On a side note, is there any way when using this theme to have sticky posts still remain in the normal post list? I’d like to have a heap of recent posts in the slider, but then have all of them still show up below, so people who don’t notice the ones in the slider don’t miss them completely.
Thanks in advance!
Tim

Featured Slider
Sight displays up to 30 of your latest sticky posts that have featured images in a prominent slider on the front page. To add a post to the slider, mark it as sticky http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/#sticky-posts and give it a featured image.
Sight featured images
Large: 640 x 290 in the Sticky posts slider
Small: 290 x 290 thumbnails are used on the home, category, tag, archives, and search pages.

That’s not possible as Pages site outside the blog structure.

I just did this and the featured posts marked as sticky posts appear in the slider and also in the date order they were published on the main page for posts.

timetheif, thanks for your help. It’s unfortunate that I can’t put some pages in that slider, but that’s life.

I wonder what I’m doing wrong. On my front page the three most recent posts, which have been marked sticky and are in the slider, and most definitely not showing up on the list of posts below. Is there a tick box I’m missing somewhere or a setting I’ve not seen?

Hi Khourde – I’m having the same problem of sticky posts appearing in the slider (which I want) but not appearing in the list of posts on the front page. Did you manage to sort it out? if so, how???
Thanks.

Sorry James, I wasn’t able to sort it out, so I’m just living with it at the moment. If you manage to do it, let me know. Anyone out there with the answer???
