Can you map an existing domain if your blog is private?

I initially made my wordpress blog private, because I planned a release date on which I would publicize the entire blog. During my editing and posting yesterday at around 6 PM, I purchased a domain from Namecheap, and mapped the two. I haven’t been able to reach my site using the Namecheap url so far (and yes, I know mapping can take up to 72 hours). But I wanted to make sure that domain mapping is possible with a private blog. Should I be able to see my website soon, and just need a dose of patience or could there be something else going wrong?
PS. I hoped my release date could be tonight at midnight, but I’m now realizing that a bit of procrastination can go a long way.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, it’s possible with a private blog. Do note that when you set your blog to public, you are going to need to do some major linkbaiting, because blogs which have been set as Private take much longer for search engines to index than brand new blogs do. Essentially, your plan to flip the switch to Public and go big will not work. Search engines will ignore your blog, because they will believe it is still Private unless you manually ping them and/or attract incoming links from sites they index.

Oh god…. that sounds rough. How do you do said linkbaiting?

You write something that people will want to link to. You ask your friends with blogs to link to it in their posts. You promote it on social media.
