Can you Monetize the Gazette theme on WordPress.com

  I was wondering if I can add ads on the wordpress.com Gazette theme. I’m currently using the free version just to get the hang of things, and will move to the premium service. But if I can’t monetize the theme, then I would need to find another one before I go any further.
