Can you please help me set up my domain name that I pay for? WordPress.org issue

    Concerning WordPress.Org

I am having trouble with the “site url” part of the set-up and, therefore completing the set up to Microsoft WebMatrix. I am using Windows 8.1. I’ve tried reinstalling several times now. Same problem. I’ve checked a couple articles in the support forums. This one (http://forums.iis.net/t/1205590.aspx?URGENT+HELP+Cannot+launch+site+admin+from+webmatrix) with this answer (http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL) seemed the most promising, but, unfortunately, I still did not get it.

I cannot make head or tail of how to install your WordPress.org, because it comes in many individual files. I’ve just spend my ENTIRE SUNDAY trying to figure this out. I’ve installed it a total of THREE TIMES, and I am giving up!

I would absolutely appreciate it if a live tech could walk me through the process, so that I can understand it better. There were no pictures in these guides and if you’re not familiar with coding, then some of the directions are not very helpful. (I only know very little about html codes and that’s about it. Not very helpful for website self-hosting.)

Unfortunately, I can’t afford to pay $130, which is why I tried to do it all by myself. It’s not the first time I’ve tried to set this thing up, but to spend a whole day at it and have the same results is very frustrating. Please help me?

The blog is http://sugar-n-spiceandeverythingnice.com. I don’t know why it thinks the url is the wordpress.com one. I paid for the other domain long before switching to WordPress.

    Thank you.
    ~Lily

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • sugar-n-spiceandeverythingnice.com is registered with enom.com. You will need to log in there and set your nameservers to point to your new webhost The nameservers are currently set to point to WordPress.com. Which is why entering sugar-n-spiceandeverythingnice.com into a browser still points you here.

I know that. I did that when I switched my blog over to wordpress from blogger with the domain I bought at blogger. My issue has nothing to do with that. Please disregard the last paragraph of my complaint. When I was submitting this, it said in the dropdown, that my blog was sugarnspicelily.wordpess.com

My problem is with making wordpress.org work.
Otherwise, if what you are saying is correct, then I really don’t know how to do it from enom. Those guides said nothing about this. I kept getting errors, multiple loops, then trying to start over didn’t help. I thought I typed in one of the site address fields wrong, or both. It also only shows up as the local host page when I launch from the Microsoft program and I keep having to re verify with 2 step every 2 minutes. When I do get logged in, it goes to the regular wordpress.com landing/dashboard, not the wordpress.org one!

Please explain/show me what to do like you would a beginner? The support guides were not helpful at all. I spent hours on them. :( Thank you.

  • I’m sorry to hear that you are having so much trouble. However, if your issue is really with setting up a self-hosted WordPress.org blog, I’m afraid that there isn’t much that WordPress.com support can do to help. We do not have access to your server or your files.

As you probably know, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

WordPress.org has complete documentation and support sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress.org at http://codex.wordpress.org/ and http://wordpress.org/support/

You might try posting to the WordPress.org forums. Lots of helpful people over there. If you have WordPress.com issues, I would be happy to help.
