Can you please make sure I don't get charged for domain renewal?
-
I thought I cancelled my domain name with WordPress, but it is still listed as active on my blogsite. Can you please assure me that it is cancelled and that I will not be charged in the future?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m showing that you transferred your domain registration from WordPress.com to Tiger Technologies, but kept the domain mapped to your WordPress.com site.
That means you won’t be charged (by us) for the Domain renewal, but if you want to keep using the domain here you will be charged for Domain Mapping in November.
Was that what you intended?
If not, let me know and we’ll get you all fixed up :)

I don’t know what domain mapping is. I don’t think I need to use the domain at WordPress if I have Tiger Tech as my webhost, but I am confused. I am a writer aged 48 and don’t know some of the necessary computer jargon, but I am a fast learner!! :)

There are three separate pieces here, and it’s easy to get them confused.
The first piece is your domain registrar. That’s the company that sells you your actual domain name. In this case, that’s Tiger Tech.
Your web host is different. Your web host is the company that owns the servers where all your content lives. You have a website hosted at WordPress.com The domain name you registered with Tiger Tech is currently pointing at your content hosted on the WordPress.com servers.
Domain mapping determines which site your domain points to. Right now the domain points to your WordPress.com site. If you want people to continue to see that content when they put juliehadler.com in their browser window then you need to keep the domain mapping upgrade.
If in addition to moving your domain registration to Tiger Tech, you are also creating a new website, you can use your existing domain (juliehadler.com) to direct visitors to the new site. In that case, you won’t need the WordPress.com domain mapping upgrade anymore. We’ll remove the domain mapping upgrade and from that point forward visitors to juliehadler.com will see your new site. Visitors to juliehadler.wordpress.com will be directed to your current site.
Does that help clear things up?

That is very helpful, but is suggests a couple more questions. I have already signed up at Tiger Tech for web hosting. I would like all my content from my current website to be transferred to Tiger Tech, but not if I have to pay an annual fee to WordPress for domain mapping. I am willing to drop the current content and create a new website on TIger Tech if that is the only way to avoid paying for domain mapping every year. If possible I prefer not to remake my website–and I want only one website for now. Can I use the current layout design that I have already set up with WordPress? I think Tiger Tech has web site building features included in the monthly fee, but I haven’t explored these thoroughly yet.
Whoof, I feel I should apologize for all the demands. But I need to know what is allowed and feasible, and what is not. Thanks in advance for your expertise and patience.

You can move your content to your new host. Do you have the WordPress software installed on your Tiger Tech account? You’ll need to do that in order for your existing content to transfer easily. Here’s some information on how to install WordPress on Tiger Tech:
https://support.tigertech.net/wordpress
Note that your current site is hosted on WordPress.com. Moving to WordPress on Tiger Tech will mean you have a self-hosted site. There are some important differences between sites hosted on WordPress.com and self-hosted sites. You’ll want to read more about that here:
WordPress.com and WordPress.org
Once you have your new WordPress site up and running you can move your content. Here are the instructions for that:

No need to apologize, it’s my pleasure to help :)

I am in the process now of having my website content pointed at Tiger Tech. They tell me it will take up to three days. I have the WordPress software installed on my Tiger Tech acct. I understand what it means to be self-hosted, and that is what I want.
My next step is to move my content, correct? I will follow your link above if so. Please let me know if I am overlooking any steps, and thanks again.

I see your domain has been pointed to the tiger tech name servers, and I’m seeing your new site at the link, so that step is in good shape :)

That’s right. The links will provide more detail, but the basic process is to export your content from your WordPress.com site and then import it into your new site.
Once that is all done and you are happy with your new site, and if you don’t want juliehadler.wordpress.com to redirect to your new site, you’ll be clear to cancel the domain mapping upgrade.

Tiger Tech sent me email stating my website is now completely finished being pointed to Tiger Tech. However, I do not see my content at juliehadler.wordpress.com. The screen is black/white with “Hello World” blank templates. Where did my content go?

It looks like Josh helped you with this over the weekend. Is it working the way you want it to now?
If it’s all the way you want it now, and you want the two sites to be completely separate going forward you can either disable auto renew on your domain mapping upgrade or cancel it all together. Here’s the link to the page where those options live.

Let me know if you have any more questions about all of this!
