Can You Redirect a Directory to a Custom URL
-
I use to have a self-hosted WordPress site that I have since moved to wordpress.com with a custom domain. I am trying to figure out how I can redirect a subdirectory to a URL. For example, if my domain name is custom.com, I want custom.com/amazon to go to amazon.com. When I was self-hosted, I used .htaccess to do this. How can I do this with WordPress.com?

Hi cheapskat!
Glad to hear that you moved to WordPress.com with a custom domain! I regret to inform you that .htaccess isn’t possible with WordPress.COM but only with the WordPress.ORG software plugin.

Hi eallas! thanks for your reply. If .htaccess is not possible with WordPress.COM, is there another way to accomplish the redirect of a subdirectory to a URL that I’m look for?

Hi again cheapskat! Thanks for your understanding of the issue.
You can either create a link to it through the menu (this one seems more to your liking) or widget.
To create a link to it in your main menu, follow this short 1:45 YouTube video that will assist you.
To create a widget with it, you can follow this short 1:22 YouTube video that can assist you as well. You can create a text widget with an image and link to it if you would like.
Let me know how it goes! Have a great day!
