Can you route existing domain name to new Personal plan?
-
I would like to create a new wordpress site. Before I commit to paying for a new WP page just want to try the free version to see how ithe looks. If I like it i will upgrade to the personal plan. I already have a domain name and if I like how the free version looks I’d like to route my domain to the upgraded personal plan AFTER I see how things look. When I try and create a site it makes me enter a domain. My question is this. Can I create a new free page, use the generic .wordpress domain I created at the start, then if i upgrade to the personal plan later can I just point the custom domain to the upgraded site or am I locked in to the .wordpress domain? Thanks so much!

Hi @crazylegs5150,
Welcome to WordPress.COM.Yes, you can create a free site using the .wordpress.com subdomain. And later, if you like it you can upgrade to any plan(in your case it is the Personal plan) to map your existing domain to your WordPress site.
You can read the instructions given here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/, to point your existing(custom) domain to you WordPress site.
And No, you will not be locked into the .wordpress.com sub-domain once you upgrade and point your domain to your site. Just make sure you set your custom domain as a primary domain for your site, so that you visitors see the custom domain in their browser’s address bar.
Read more about setting a primary domain here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#setting-the-primary-domain
Hope this helps :)
