Can you switch domains?

    Hello, I’m currently building a site for a client. They own their own domain but won’t purchase a subscription to wordpress until after I’ve completed the site. I can’t complete the site unless I make it live and connect a domain.

    If I connect a free domain, can I transfer and switch it to their domain afterwards?

    Hi there!

    On WordPress.com, there’s no need to connect a custom domain before you’re ready to go live with the site. During the whole building process (and even after launching the site), you can keep using the free address ending with .wordpress.com. It’s up to you when you decide to connect the custom domain.

    When purchasing the plan, just skip the step about registering or connecting a custom domain, and continue with the free address. You’ll be able to register, connect or transfer the domain later. You also won’t need to pay for it additionally if your purchased plan was billed yearly.
