Can You Track PDF Downloads

Is there a way to track how many times a PDF has been downloaded from your website?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This is a good question and one I have pondered over from time to time – also wondering the same for images.

As far as I can see – there is no way to determine this from the standard dashboard.

There is no built-in feature provided by WordPress.com to do this that I am aware of.

    Stats Page – “Clicks”

You PDF files will be hidden with all the other clicks, so you can see them but depending on how many different things are clicked on they can be hard to find. YOu might be able to copy and paste into a spread sheet then do some type of sort.

Counting “clicks” would tell you how many people opened the document in a browser window but wouldnt actually tell you how many people saved the document?

I would define a download as those who saved the document.

Actually, a download as a file going from another computer to your computer.

The only difference is that either your browser will display it immediately after downloading it (and it is then discarded in your temporary Internet files) or your browser asked you if you wanted to save it elsewhere.

Either way, I really don’t think there is no way for WordPress.com to tell what your visitor did with your file after clicking on the link.
