can you transfer a url/domain to yourself?

    I know the title sounds confusing, sorry.

    I pretty much made a dumb mistake. I wanted to change my blog, and instead of just rebranding the one I have and changing the url, I decided to start from scratch and make an entirely new blog. Now I’ve realised that I dont have the time – and frankly don’t want to put in the effort. Can I ‘send’ that url for the other blog over to the one I already have? Since deleting the other blog will make that domain unusable forever (which I think is kind of dumb, since if someone made a blog with that domain in 2013 and hasn’t used it since/has deleted that blog, why can’t I use it?! So frustrating but anyways)

    If you’re using a custom domain (not a .wordpress.com address), you can definitely transfer it between your WordPress.com sites. The support team has a step-by-step guide that walks you through moving your domain to another site:

    However, if you’re referring to a .wordpress.com subdomain (like yourblog.wordpress.com), these cannot be transferred between sites and become unavailable for reuse once deleted. This is a security measure to prevent confusion and protect users’ content history.

    A site redirect might be able to help with that, but TBH, if you are using another free site wordpress.com address like yassreads, why not just make that site Private if you haven’t yet posted there. If you’ve already posted, leave a “you can find me here” post with a link to yassreads.

    Since deleting the other blog will make that domain unusable forever (which I think is kind of dumb, since if someone made a blog with that domain in 2013 and hasn’t used it since/has deleted that blog, why can’t I use it?!

    When mysite.wordpress.com site addresses are deleted, the addresses aren’t recycled in order to avoid issues of impersonation. :)
