Can you upload from an old installation?

  I’ve been using WordPress for a while and love it. It’s been running on my own website, but I want to move it to the wordpress.com site. Is there any way to upload posts from my old installation to here?

  heh heh heh.

  It’s a pain. :)

  You can grab the old WPExport plug in and try that. Make sure you read the comments on that page as there’s a large number of bug fixes in there. Export out to a MT format and try to import that.

  It sort of works. :)

  edit: If anyone knows of a better exporter, I would love to know of it. It’s one of the things missing fromt eh version I roll out to my clients. We just do MySQL exports and backups.

  I just tried the one in this post and it appears to work fine. It does multiple categories which the other one didn’t. I mucked up the import because of another reason but it appears to work fine though.

  If you’re still paying attention, :) I strongly suggest not uploading a file bigger than say 300kb or so. You can devide the file up into chucks as long as the last line of each file is that line with 8 hash marks. That’s the division between posts. Doing them in order is helpful as well. (That may be the issue with my webcomic backup.)
