Canape Issues

    Hi guys.

I have started distance learning that requires me to keep a learning blog and they have recommended wordpress.

I have chose the Canape theme but there are a couple of problems im having with setting it up:

    1. The Featured image is not full width, there is a white border around it, any ideas on how to fix this?
    2. The demo shows 3 images on the front page of food, I would like to use these as links to recent projects, but I can’t figure out how to get those images to show.

    Link is peterwinfield.wordpress.com

I would really appreciate any help, thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hey there,

    1. The Featured image is not full width, there is a white border around it, any ideas on how to fix this?

This does seem odd, even upon attempting uploading an image with the same dimensions to my own test site with Canape in place the results are a full width image but on your page there is 1.75em padding surrounding your primary content area. Have you by chance added any CSS? As a suggestion, maybe attempt re-uploading this image and putting it in place once more.

I do not see any immediate settings available that allow for this change to be applied to this section within the overview docs here: https://wordpress.com/theme/canape/.

    2. The demo shows 3 images on the front page of food, I would like to use these as links to recent projects, but I can’t figure out how to get those images to show.

Follow the set up documentation in the link above, specifically in reference to the Featured Menu Section to add these images to your Homepage.

Let me know if the above suggestion works or not and we can look into this deeper, and if you have any trouble with the steps involved in the image set up, pop back in were always here to lend a hand.

    Hope this helps,

    Cheers

Thanks so much for looking into this for me!

I have not added any CSS, that’s a bit out of my expertise to be honest! I have tried re-uploading the image and have even tried a new image and it still shows the border.

I have tried to follow the above steps, i.e creating the “food menu” But I can’t see how to make it apply an image and the nice hover effect, am I missing something?

    Hey again!

I think I’ve got this figured. Seems as though when you change the Page Attributes > Page Template within the Editor of the page you have set as your Static Homepage to the Menu Template it will add this padding in. In order to remove it instead select from this drop down list the Default Template. Here is a screenshot for some visual aid: http://prntscr.com/ks2keh.

As for creating the “food menu” I will take a look at implementing this on my test site and get back to you with any insight on how to make it happen!

Let me know if the above works for you or if you need any further direction.

    Cheers

Thank you so much codekmyta! I have finally got the full width image, if you manage to figure out the menus too you’ll be even more of a hero :D

    Thank you thank you!

Okay so I had few funky things happen during this process but overall I was able to get it to work. I will list exactly what I did and the unusual things that happened and you test it out yourself and let me know if you get the same results as it could cause future trouble for editing the specific page you want displayed on click.

First step, head to your My Sites dashboard, and click Food Menus > Add Menu Item. Give the page and Title, and content if you like and select from the right sidebar (Menu item: Settings), the Menu Section and Add New Menu Section then give it a name of your choosing and toggle it on. Next, hit publish (make sure to go through the whole process of publishing), and this is where I ran into trouble – it didn’t seem to want create and display the page within the Food Menu section. Either way, leave it for now and we will come back this later on. Now do this whole process 2 more times and create new Titles and and new Menu Sections each time.

Once you have 3 Food Menus and 3 Menu Sections created and assigned to each of them individually, even if they do not display that you have created and published them (as they didn’t for me), head to your Customizer. In your Customizer select Theme Options and Front Page. Assign each of the 3 Menu Sections to each of the 3 Featured Menu drop down lists and assign a Featured image of your choosing to each as well.

Hit publish and test it out, hover over and click on each image displayed and see exactly where they take you. If everything looks in order head back to your Food Menu section of your dashboard and check if they Food Menus that you have created are displayed there, mine do not, however beside the Published heading it shows that I have (3) items published. This is a problem because even though these pages are created and assigned to the appropriate section, there doesn’t seem to be a way to access and edit them further. If this happens for you as well, let me know and we can tag modlook for staff to take a look into this as it could potentially be a bug. If it works and they are there, awesome! may just be on my end for some particular local reason, so let me know either way.

Best of luck and let me know if you have any trouble where your at so far.

    Cheers
