I thought about using the Menu Feature (through customization) on my static home page. As I worked though the process I noticed that changes saved in customization were not implemented so I decided not to use the feature. Now I am left with a home page that has and large shaded block where the menus should be located and the footer has disappeared. I created a new front page hoping that would resolve the problem – it didn’t. I have deleted all elements related to the Menu feature. In addition to there being now footer the “my sites” menu bar disappears when I navigate to that page, if I navigate to any other pages on my site it reappears.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The Front Page includes the following:

    • A featured area with a full-width featured image and front page content below.
    • A Featured Menu Section, which displays up to three featured items, configured under Customize → Theme Options → Front Page. These items are linked to specific Food Menu sections. Using this option requires creating a Food Menu first — see instructions below. For best results, images uploaded should already be cropped and uniform in size. Recommended width is 345px if you wish to display three items, or 590px each if displaying two items.
    • A Testimonials area, configured under Customize → Testimonials, which displays three newest testimonials. To add a testimonial, go to Testimonials → Add New in your WP Admin dashboard. If no testimonials are added, this section will not be displayed. This section can also be disabled on the front page under Customize → Theme Options → Front Page.
    • Three Front Page widget areas, displayed side-by-side in columns, managed under Customize → Widgets.

Have you followed the instruction from the theme documentation here?

Yes I have followed the instructions form the theme document ion. I do no details entered in the Featured Menu Section however there is a shaded box on my front static page as if I do, and the footer is not appearing on the front static page.

The page stop displaying after the featured menu. Perhaps you did not create any featured menu and the theme doesn’t know what to display and create error. Can you tried to create several fake featured menu just to check if that’s the problem?

  • Unknown's avatar

ok, but I had created a menu, and then decided not to use it, deleted all the content but the shaded box is still there. also, i just changed the theme to another and then changed it back to Canape in the hopes that it would clear the issue, it didn’t.

I just created Featured Menu Section items (3) and when I return to the Customize > theme options > front page those items are not available in the drop down. This was the original issue I had yesterday. Eventually on item appear and never the other two, so I decided to not use the feature, deleted the Featured Menu Section items and was left with the error.

The issue is definitely something to do with the Static Home page feature, I selected a different page a my state home page and the same shaded box appeared. Is there any way to clear all the formatting and reload the theme?

After you created 3 menu items, simply create a new page, and assign it the Menu Page Template. Have you done this?

So to clarify, you need at least 2 pages:
    1. create a page with empty content, set the title ‘front page’.
Go to Settings → Reading and set “Front page displays” to “A static page.”
Select the page created in Step One as “Front page,” and choose another page as “Posts page” to display your blog posts.

    2. create another page with empty content, but set the template as ‘Menu Page Template’

But I don’t want to use the Menu Feature. That’s my issue. I have decided not to use it, I can work without it, but it has corrupted my static home page in some why – regardless of what page I choose new or existing the same error is appearing. Is there any way to clear it and reload the theme?

The theme render the page as the way it is as documented. So if there is no menu feature, it will return error.

What I can suggest is to pick other theme, or if you insist on using the theme, you can download and install it on self hosted wordpress.

it was all working fine with out the menu feature and looked great, and I planned not to use it. As soon as I made a choice to see what it might look like with the menu feature was when everything went wrong. Now even if I wanted to I cannot get the menu feature to work. The specific food menu items dow not appear under Customize → Theme Options → Front Page. These items are linked to specific Food Menu sections.

I suggest delete the pages, delete the food menu items, set front page display to your latest post and start over.

However if that doesn’t help, you can request for site reset. This will keep your site and URL active, but give you a fresh start on your content creation. Please note that your posts, pages, media and comments will get deleted as well.
