canape theme – restaurant menu section not showing all sub sections
-
hello. I am setting up a menu on the canapé theme. I created a menu section called ‘menu’ and then several child sections like ‘appetizers, burgers, etc’. this theme offers a front page that you can set up with images that link to featured menu sections. if I set the image to the ‘burgers’ section it works fine… but if I set it to the parent menu section it only lists the items in 2 of the child sections instead of all of them. so if I have 8 child menu sections it only lists 2.
can anyone help me with this? I would appreciate it

so to clarify, to see my problem…
click “menu” from the homepage at the top and it will take you to the entire menu with all child menu sections… the url will be hermannsotg.wordpress.com/menu
that works great… but go back to the home page and scroll down to the three images.. the left one is for “menu” which is a parent menu item. if you click that it takes you to url of hermannsotg.wordpress.com/menu/menu, it should list all the same items but instead only lists 2 of them.
its very strange… they are all set up as child menu sections to “menu”. it may be worth noting that the 2 sections it does list are the last two that were created. if I add a new one and make it a child to “menu” it will be listed there and will kick out one of the others.

Your menu button is linking to
https://hermannsotg.wordpress.com/menu/menu/If you change it to just
https://hermannsotg.wordpress.com/menu/
(remove the second menu part) then it should work in the same way as if you click menu in the top navigation (takes you to a page with all of the items).Hope this helps!

thanks for your reply… unfortunately the link that is part of the picture is part of the theme “front page” template. i tell it which menu section to point to and it pulls in the url and the description of that section.
to make a section that was my entire food menu i created a parent section called “menu” with child sections (appetizers, burgers, etc). thats why the url ends in “menu/menu” instead of menu. you cant point this link to just the root menu.
it appears to be a bug in the theme that it will only list 2 of the sub sections.
i currently am using the free version of the theme and wordpress hosting, but would gladly switch to the paid version if i could get this fixed…

Let me take another look. I don’t have that theme installed, but let me load it up and I’ll take a look.

Ok. Here’s what I was able to figure out by building out a simple site with the same theme on my end. I hope this description is clear!
The widgets on the homepage are designed to display one menu section, not the whole menu. So, perhaps you would feature appetizers in one, pizza in another and desert in a third. But, if the reader clicked on menu at the top, they would get ALL of the menu sections because they are reading the whole menu.
In addition to setting up each of your menu sections, you also have a section called “menu”. You’ll notice that the word menu appears in the yellow menu navigation items and you can also tell it’s a section by the last part of the domain name: https://hermannsotg.wordpress.com/menu/menu/
You also have the wraps in their own menu section: https://hermannsotg.wordpress.com/menu/menu/wraps/
Basically, you have two options:
1. You can choose to highlight just one menu section and select that for the first widget area.
2. You can tag all of your menu items with the “Menu” for Menu Sections and that would display all of the items when you click on the graphic.
I hope this makes sense. If not, feel free to ask another question.

thanks for your effort and response. all subsections are marked as “menu” section as well
so appetizers is marked as menu section and appetizers section. if i use the menu section (how it is currently online) in the widget it only displays 2 of the subsections, not all of them.
so if i take the menu section out of each subsection then nothing will display there… as i start adding subsections to the menu section they display, but only two at a time. and its always the last two that i joined to the menu section…
so if i add menu section to appetizers and salads then the widget displays them both, works great…
but if i add soups (a third subsection) i will then only see salads and soups
if i add a fourth… pizzas… then i only see soups and pizzas. it only shows the last two sub sections that i add to the section “menu”.
this isnt the end of the world, but if you look at my site the other 2 widgets are pointing to my beer selection and a specials section that will update daily. so if the first one can only point to 1 sub section we will live with that… but it would ideally point to the whole “menu” section
i realize that the menu link at the top is what is meant to display the entire menu, but at this point im more just curious as to why the widget will only display 2 sub sections… it seems like it would either display all the subsections listed under menu section, or none at all
thanks again for your help

I’m sorry, but I can not answer why you are only seeing two categories. I’m seeing the same thing when I tried what you did. I think that’s just how the theme is constructed, not how you configured it.
I’m flagging this post for a moderator to take a look at, however, in case I am missing something.
Thanks!

Hi there. When you refer to widgets, I think you’re referring to the front-page squares which link to various food menu sections, right? (Those aren’t technically widgets.)
I’m going to ask our developers to have a look at this and we’ll keep you posted here. The “older posts” button is not currently displaying the rest of your menu items as it should – if you click it, there is no effect.

This thread wasn’t tagged with modlook, but I just spotted it. hermannsotg – if you need staff help in the future, please add the modlook tag to your thread.

Thanks for your help… Yeah I know it’s not really a widget… I am referring to the front page squares for featured menu sections. I have a menu section (called menu) with several child menu sections. When I select the parent section for display in the featured square, it only displays two of the child objects. When you click on the square. I have them properly set up… If I add new child sections to the parent section the new one displays along with the second newest one.
The reason for this is I want to have my featured blocks display my food menu when you click on one, my drink menu for another, and daily specials for the third. But I still want the individual sections split up into sub categories
Let me know what you think
Thanks again

Got it. I was able to replicate this on a test site as well, so something’s definitely up. I’ll keep you posted here.

Hi everyone, I’m using canape theme and find the problem you’ve just point out
The “older posts” button is not currently displaying the rest of your menu items as it should – if you click it, there is no effect.
My page is http://triride.es/ and the problem is on PRODUCTOS/ACCESORIOS http://triride.es/menu/accesorios/ , exactly is only on the section accesorios, where I have more than 10 items to display.
Hope you find a solution already.
Thanks -
Hi there,
We’ve just a released a fix for the menu pages. Now each menu section shows all menu items in the section.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Please let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks.
