CANARD Theme: Properly removing featured image, but not title

  • Unknown's avatar

    I don’t like the look of the featured image at the very top of the post, but I would still like the title at the very top just like I had it on my old site. I’ve had to use CSS to hide the image while still retaining the title, but now there’s this huge gap between the title and the first block of the post. I’ve tried some CSS to hide the image only, but then the title is written on top of my current custom banner. This is the CSS I found on another forum post that I’m using:

    .attachment-canard-single-thumbnail {
    visibility: hidden;
    height: 250px;
    }
    .entry-hero .post-thumbnail {
    background-color: #ffffff;
    }

    .entry-header-wrapper {
    background-image: none;
    }

    .entry-header-wrapper .entry-title {
    color: #000000;
    text-shadow: none;
    }

    .entry-header-wrapper .cat-links a {
    color: #777777;
    text-shadow: none;
    }

    This is the look I want: here.
    But this is how it’s currently is: here.

    Honestly, the customizer for the Canard theme on the free version of WordPress was so much simpler and had more customizability. I don’t know why there’s less options on self-hosted WP where I can’t even change the colours easily anymore. Can anyone help?

    Hi,

    Honestly, the customizer for the Canard theme on the free version of WordPress was so much simpler and had more customizability.

    The free WordPress.com version of the Canard theme is available for use on self-hosted WordPress.org sites. There’s a download button at the bottom of the free Canard overview.

    I don’t like the look of the featured image at the very top of the post, but I would still like the title at the very top just like I had it on my old site.

    As you might already be aware, in the free version of Canard you may choose whether a featured image displays or not on 1. the blog and archives pages, 2. single posts, and 3. static pages. Hiding featured images on single posts requires only that you uncheck the appropriate box at Customize > Content Options > Featured Images.

    I don’t know why there’s less options on self-hosted WP where I can’t even change the colours easily anymore. Can anyone help?

    As a volunteer I’m not qualified to respond to this question. Staff has been called to attend to this topic, and perhaps they’ll provide a helpful answer.

    Oh gosh, thank you musicdoc1! I never saw that download button buried all the way down there. The changes I want to make are so much easier now with this version of Canard that I’m more familiar with. Cheers!

    The Canard on my free WP site had a “Colors & Backgrounds” tab in the customizer which is now missing on the version above I just installed. Now I can only change the header color (redundant as I am using a custom header). I am still lost as to how to change the accent color for this theme (that red color on all the links and the little arrows in my navigation bar) if anyone can help with that.

    Yes, you’re seeing one of the differences between the Customizer here at WordPress.com and the Customizer that’s part of the WordPress software. We’ve added more functionality to it to allow our users to more easily make changes like you’re describing without needing to upgrade to access the Custom CSS feature.

    Regarding this question…

    We can’t advise on other plugins or customizations on sites not hosted here at WordPress.com and there aren’t any that I’m aware of that would add the functionality you’re used to at WordPress.com.

    Might I ask why you decided to leave WordPress.com? It’s quite possible the things you wanted to do with your website would still be possible here at WordPress.com, so we are happy to clarify any questions you may have. :)

    @theperpetualsaturday,

    Glad to help! : )

    Just I and my friend
    We’ll travel for miles in our Saturday smiles
    And then we’ll move on
    But we will remember
    Long after Saturday’s gone
