Canard theme – reduce excerpt size

    I would like to reduce the number of words in the excerpt on the home page. I am using Canard theme on https://www.studentdesign.cafe/

    To my mind, 30 or so words would be enough.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi there,

    This would require adding a custom PHP function to your functions.php file (via a child theme or using the Code Snippets plugin), and I’m afraid this type of change falls outside the scope of support we provide for themes we make.

    I did do a quick search of the theme’s code, and it looks like the function you’ll need to override is in the /inc/extras.php file. Hope that helps.

    Just for future reference, the self-hosted version of Canard you’re using is at https://wordpress.org/support/theme/canard/, though we have the same scope of support there as we have for themes here on WordPress.com.

    Hi folks,

    I don’t know if this will help, but the WordPress.com version of Canard is available for use on self-hosted sites — see the download link at the bottom of the Canard theme Overview – and although automatic excerpts in this theme are 65 words long, Canard is one of the themes that allow custom excerpts for each post.

    With that feature (on the WordPress.com version of Canard), you may create an excerpt of any length for each post, that will display at that length on the blog and archive pages, as described in the Create an Excerpt section of the Excerpts support page.

    Thank you both. I am trying to reduce the size of the existing excerpt, and have reposted this query in the Canard theme forum.
