Can/Can’t Log Into WordPress
-
I wanted to get a WordPress account not in order to get a blog, but in order to register with and comment on other blogs that apparently use WordPress.
I’ve registered (as far as I can tell, as I have a screen name and a password that allows me to access my Dashboard. But whenever I try to log in on a WordPress blog, it refuses me, telling me “ERROR: Invalid username.” I go and log into my Dashboard, and yet I still get the same response when I try to log in to the blog in question.
I’ve been struggling with this for months; I usually try to figure out what the problem is and ultimately become frustrated enough that I decide it’s not worth the trouble. Then, a few months later, I try again and go through the hassle with the same results.

There are two types of wordpress blogs. Those hosted here at wordpress.COM, and the standalone wordpress blogs hosted on third-party hosting sites. The two are not connected in any way.
What is the address of one of the blogs you are trying to comment on?

The one I’ve been trying to comment on is http://bighollywood.breitbart.com. They allow comments from non-registered folks, but there are features that only seem to be available to those who are registered. When I tried to register, it led me to a WordPress login, and that’s where I got my error message. It’s happened on one or two other sites in the past, as well.

The referenced site is a self-hosted wordpress blog so your login information from here won’t work.
It appears like they accept open ID login and your account here has connection with open ID. In the dashboard for your account here, go to settings > open ID and it will show your open ID. Copy that and then go to the site, click on the open ID link at the comment area and enter your open ID there.

You know I was just reading through the open ID support document, and to have an open ID here, you have to have a blog here.
