  I am closing business and need to cancel akismet. Instructions say to go to purchases in wordpress, but when I go there, the only option is to upgrade

  You cannot cancel Akismet on any site hosted by wordpress.COM like http://thefurnituredoctorsllc.wordpress.com/ It is built-in.
