cancel auto-renew

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,
Please I’d like to cancel the auto-renew on our website. I understand it’s done automatically now ? I can’t find the “update” section where I should un-tick that box. Thank you!

    Hi there!

    Thanks for reaching out.

I’d like to cancel the auto-renew on our website.

    — Please remember that you are charged the month before the subscription period so that nothing happens, especially with payment issues.

In order to cancel your auto renewal, you would need to do it as soon as possible if you’re unaware of when you’ll be charged. You can also manage your purchases so that you can make sure that you are in good control of your WordPress.com account, and you understand how auto renewal works.

I will give you a few articles below to help you further in payment, and auto-renewals to make sure that you understand how WordPress.com charges users and how auto-renewal works.

You can manage your purchases here, to cancel auto-renewal, and check your billing history, etc.

    — So you’re saying that you encounter issues as you are doing this process? If you are, reply and I’ll see other ways to help.

    Thanks!

  • Hi there,

I’ve disabled auto-renewal on your account. You can also cancel it yourself, but only after an upgrade exits the refund period. Your current upgrades will expire in February 2019 unless you renew them manually before then.

If you want to cancel the renewal that already happened, please let me know as soon as possible, as I can still refund your domain at this point. Keep in mind that you might not be able to use the domain again elsewhere if you do decide to cancel it.

    @alissonhz,

Please tag threads like this for staff, as we ask in the Volunteers support guide. The information you gave does not help the user, as this is not something they can do on their own – only staff can issue refunds for auto-renewals.

Hi, thank you @alissonhz for your help and @kokkieh for replying and disabling the auto-renewal.

Keep in mind that you might not be able to use the domain again elsewhere if you do decide to cancel it.

Does that mean that if you cancel it and refund me, the website will cease to exist straight away? And that we won’t be able to re-use that domain name again later (next year for example)? sorry for the silly questions, I’m just trying to understand how that works ;)

    thanks !

  • Your website will not go away. It will still be accessible at the free address, lespasperdusdotorg.wordpress.com, and all the content you’ve created on it thus far will still be there.

But if you don’t renew it, or cancel the domain, lespasperdus.org, that specific domain won’t become available again immediately. Instead it will go through a redemption process during which our registrar is allowed to try and auction it off to anyone that wants it. If no one buys it at auction, it is eventually released so that anyone can register it again, so someone else could also buy it at that point.

So while there’s a chance you’ll be able to register the same domain as a new domain a year from now, there’s also a chance that someone else will own it by that point, in which case you won’t be able to buy it.
