Cancel domain and claim it from a different host

  I canceled a domain on wordpress.com, and I would like to now use it on a different host. It is not a common name so someone else claiming it isn’t a risk, but it’s still unavailable. How do I make it available again?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Canceling a domain means you completely give up ownership of the domain. There is no guarantee the domain will become available to re-register after cancellation. We cannot help you with this.

  Thanks for the reply. Do you have any idea how likely it is to become available agian, or how long that takes?

  could be several days to never – sometimes squatters buy names and hold them hostage for big bucks – sometimes registrars keep the name and auction it off

  sometimes the staff can retrieve a canceled name – then you can change the name servers to your new host and after 60 days transfer the registration to a different company

  someone has flagged this for staff attention

  Ok I would like for staff to try to retrieve the canceled domain.

  This domain has already been canceled and we can no longer retrieve it for you. It should take about a couple of weeks before it becomes available for registration, once again.
