Cancel mapping of a domain

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m attempting to cancel the domain mapping as I no longer own the domain. However, when I click on the domain name in the ‘Domains’ section, it takes me to my billing page (Manage Purchases) which does not show this.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Is this for the domain, bluealbatross.co.uk?

While you own the site, bluealbatross.wordpress.com, the Premium Plan and domain mapping on that site is owned by another admin, bluealbatross1. You’ll need to be logged in as that username to cancel the upgrades, or post here as that username if you need me to cancel it for you.

Hi there, no it’s for the Scotch egg and velvet one.

Many thanks for your help (and on Christmas day!)

I will need the actual domain, please :)

Also, your account does not appear to own any domains, or any other upgrades, so that domain mapping likely also belongs to a different account. But if you can give me the exact domain I can tell you what that username is.

    Apologies – scotcheggandvelvetclub.wordpress.com

I cancelled the domain name it was being mapped to…?

  • Thanks. That domain is under the username, cmeredith2014, so you’ll need to log in as that username to cancel it. The WordPress.com site, scotcheggandvelvetclub.wordpress.com, is still active – it’s not possible to delete a WordPress.com site if it has upgrades on it.

Err yes, I seem to have forgotten the password and it’s on my old work email which I don’t have any more….

Assuming I somehow get into the account, I should be able to see this under Purchases?

  • If you can access that account you’ll see the domain on your Purchases page, yes.

You can find our account recovery process here:

    Account Recovery

If you no longer have access to the email address, you’ll need the transaction ID to verify your ownership. You can obtain that directly from PayPal, even if you don’t have a PayPal account. Details on how to do that here:

    Retrieving a PayPal Transaction ID

Thank you for your continued assistance! I tried the account recovery process but may have tripped up using an email address I have associated with another wordpress account. Is it possible to try this multiple times?

  • Unknown's avatar

In fact – I accidentally posted from that other account….thefirmmotorcompany, as the forum topic notified me. So now I’m not sure what to do!

  • I’ve sent an email to the address associated with that account, just in case it’s an email you still have access to.

If not, you should be able to verify your account with a PayPal transaction ID on the account recovery form. When you bought your upgrade for that site, the transaction was processed through PayPal. This is the case even if you don’t have a PayPal account.

So, if you can provide PayPal with the transaction details related to the last payment you made for that site, they can provide you with the transaction ID for that transaction. You can use that ID to verify your account ownership on the recovery form.

When you submit the form, make sure to include an email address where we can currently reach you to reply.

I haven’t received the email and I definitely have access to the account. I’ll try the account recovery using a different one?

  • You will need to get that transaction ID from PayPal then to verify your account. You can provide any email address on the form for us to contact you at, but we’ll still need the verification info as well.
