Hey there, I’ve been playing with wordpress after paying for a year of premium, and I’ve realized it’s not what I need, I was wondering if I can cancel my subscription and get a partial refund?

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: No

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

I am not seeing any active upgrade under the account you are contacting us from. Do you possibly have another WordPress.com account with an active Premium Plan? If so, please log into that account and post in this thread. Then, we’ll be happy to take a look at the status of the plan.

    Thanks!

Sorry, yes, this is the correct account. I accidentally was signed in as the wrong one lol. Thank you!

Just reaching out again to see if it was possible. Thank you

  • Hello there,

Yes it’s totally possible, in the account you would need to navigate to https://wordpress.com/me/purchases in order to to cancel any active purchases in place.

For our information, would you be willing to explain why you’re deciding to cancel?

Thanks for responding, unfortunately all that does is stop the site from renewing next year. I wanted to cancel now and hopefully get some of the money I put down as I haven’t really used the product.

As for reasons, the plan I could afford didn’t have the features I needed, so I’ve switched to the org version and my friends helped me set it up the way I needed which would have cost me more than I could afford on the com version.

Thanks for clarifying. However, you’re outside our refund policy for new purchases and renewals; annual plans can be refunded in full only if requested within 14 days of purchase/renewal. You can learn more about our refund policy here:

    https://wordpress.com/support/refunds/

Regarding the domain harrymillward.com, you transferred in that domain when you made that Premium purchase. Are you planning on using that domain on your self-hosted site? If so, you would not want to delete anything here as cancelling a domain does not make it available for purchase elsewhere.

Also, it’s currently under an ICANN-required 60-day transfer lock, but you can set the nameservers to point to your new website right away, then once that lock has expired (in approximately one month), you can transfer it to a new domain registrar.

I hope that clarifies things! Let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you, yeah, it was my mistake to buy ahead of time, but I haven’t asked for a full refund, I’m asking for a part refund, even if that means I lose out on some value I think 3/4 or even half of the money returned would still leave the business ahead and would really help me out.

And yes I need that domain, I’ve set a date to transfer it when it unlocks, I understand I can just redirect to a temporary domain until then? I hope so… otherwise a lot of links and business cards are going to not work..

I’m feeling pretty stuck right now, and again, It’s my fault, but I’m hoping that if I can at least get some money back it’ll be a great help.

I understand the frustration, but we don’t offer pro-rated refunds on any of our plans.

Regarding the domain, yes you can use it on your new site right away by getting the nameserver information from your current host and updating it here by following these instructions:

    https://wordpress.com/support/domains/change-name-servers/#changing-name-servers-to-point-away-from-word-press-com

Nameserver changes can take anywhere from a few hours up to 48 hours to fully propagate across the internet, so you may not see it updated immediately. But, when you transfer the domain, the nameservers you set now should be retained at your new domain registrar.

    I hope that clarifies things!
