  May I offer some advice please? Your answer here is good and most of your answers are, in fact, good but your underlying assumption may be that this person is most likely referring to a wordpress.COM site.

  When I click member under the username I see the account was registered on August 1, 2017 ie. only 10 hours ago. That combined with the fact that over 30% who post here ought to be posting to wordpress.ORG support leads me to take a different approach in cases like these to avoid any confusion. I always confirm the URL and hosting first.

  My guess, which could, of course, be wrong is that this person may actually want instructions to deactivate the account.

  @timethief,

  Thank you for the tip, yes I did take that into consideration. My train of thought was to offer a solution that might be applicable with the limited information given. That way if that is the situation the issue can be resolved right away.

  I should have however followed up with asking for the URL for the site to cover all the bases if the information provided did not fit the issue.

  I will keep this in mind going forward. Thank you

  I forgot to add two more tips. After I checked the member link I also typed the username into google search and could not locate an associated wordpress.COM site.

  Then I looked for a gravatar profile http://en.gravatar.com/vlsmith5 as wordpress.com accounts and gravatar accounts are one in the same thing (both owned by Automattic Inc).
