Canceled Domain

  I bought a domain 3 days ago and cancelled it today, I am trying to move everything over to Bluehost so I can use the WordPress.org software. I am finding out that I might have messed up, is that domain gone forever now? Will I ever be able to buy it through Bluehost or should I just try and find another one?

  If I did mess up by deleting it, is there a redemption period where I can get it back?

  Hey there,

  As @thamarakandabada mentions, if you’re wanting to transfer your domain, you should never cancel it at your current host because once you decide to cancel your domain, there is no guarantee that you will be able to reacquire it in the future. Someone else could gain access to it. Also, it usually takes a few weeks for your domain registration to clear and become available once you cancel it. There isn’t an exact time, however, so you’ll be checking consistently to see when it becomes available.

  If you want to keep using your domain but you don’t want to use WordPress.com anymore, you don’t have to cancel it. Instead, you can move the domain to another site

  I’ll be happy to contact the registrar to see if we can restore the domain back to your account, but I cannot guarantee that we will be able to get the domain back.

  Thanks for the info staff-doublebassd for the information. Are you one of the administers of WordPress? I guess I did mess up and cancelled my domain, how would I need to go about trying to restore it?

  Hi there,

  I was able to restore everything for you. You’ll need to transfer your domain before deleting your site. If you do not want anyone to have access to the site, I’d suggest setting it private until you are able to transfer the domain to your site host in 60 days or so.
