Canceling a blog then re-using the name

    1. Can I cancel/close a blog and then re-use that blog name for a new account? My problem is that I have created a second blog on my regular account yet I am being identified through my first blog. There are times I may wish to post a comment on another blog as owner of my blog 2 rather than being identified all the time as owner of blog 1. I want myself to be identified separately for each blog (separate user) I create. Is this possible?

    2. If I spin off my blog 2 as a separate domain (as you offer for $18 a year) does my blog content and theme then get transferred over to the new domain or must I load up WordPress and do all the programming myself? I’d rather not have to pay some programmer $500 to upload and install a blog for me.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi,

    1. You can transfer your blog to a different account by going to the My Blogs page within your site’s Dashboard ( direct link: https://dougsboomerrants.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=my-blogs ).

When you hover over the blog you’d like to transfer, a Transfer Blog link appears. You can then transfer it to a different WordPress.com account.

If you actually delete the blog, that address cannot be used again, so please do transfer it!

    2. Everything stays exactly the same. The only different when purchasing a domain is that the new domain (as well as the old .wordpress.com address) will take readers to your site. Everything else is the exact same system.

If you have any questions or need anything else, please let me know.

    Excellent and timely assist! Thanks!!
Ok.. one more question.. for now.. :)
My primary blog, dougsboomerrants, is using a premium-paid theme which I understand is good for one year. If I transfer the blog to the $18 domain does my premium theme still run out after a year? If so, this then begs the question, if the new domain and content is only accessable by me how does WordPress “get in there” to stop the theme?

  • Hi,

Yes, the Custom Design upgrade is paid annually, so it is currently good until August 2014. When purchasing a domain, you still need to host your website somewhere. In your case, you’re hosting on WordPress.com and, no matter if you’re using a *.wordpress.com address or your domain, you’re still on the exact same infrastructure as before. WordPress.com staff can still assist you on your site in either case.

You can use your domain with a different hosting provide using the self-hosted version of WordPress (more about the difference: WordPress.com and WordPress.org). If you were using WordPress.org, the Custom Design upgrade wouldn’t apply (since it is available only for WordPress.com-based sites). In that case, WordPress.com would not have access to your site and support would be available via the WordPress.org forums at http://wordpress.org/support .

If you have any other questions or need anything else, please let me know.

You’ve been a great help in the past so I’m hitting you up again, Mr. Kraft.
The question this time… Is there a way to print out blog posts other than doing the file/print routine? I wanted to have a printed record of my blog posts in a binder kinda thing.

  • Howdy again!

The file->print is the most economical, though the most time-intensive.

There are three services that I’ve heard of that can help with this. The first two allow you to buy a book of your blog.

    http://blog2print.sharedbook.com/blogworld/printmyblog/index.html
A friend of mine has used this one for years for a written record of her blog.

Same idea as the one above

    http://www.blogbooker.com/
This site will, for free, make a PDF of your blog that you can print at home.

I haven’t used any of these services and we don’t endorse them, so your experience with them may vary—just a little disclaimer!

Hope that helps and that all is well. Cheers!
