Canceling Account Before Automatic Renewal

    Last spring 2019 I moved all my domain name and my WordPress content to SquareSpace. I wanted to close my WordPress account, which had both a Personal and a Premium subscription, and receive a pro-rated refund, but a refund was not possible. The subscriptions would continue till their renewal dates. My continuing account indicates the Personal subscription will renew automatically on Jan. 20, 2020, and the Premium subscription on Feb. 12, 2020. I want to cancel my account and my subscriptions before I am charged renewal fees. I have read instructions for turning off automatic renewal on the ‘Manage Purchases, Renewals & Cancellations’ webpage. But when I entered my account and clicked on ‘Manage Purchases’ I found no clear indication that I still have the Personal and Premium subscriptions. In short, I’m confused. I need someone to take my hand through the account cancellation process before the subscription renewal dates to make sure I’m completely out of WordPress now and won’t be hit with a $96 charge. Please advise.

    Hi there!

    Was this for the site jrfoley.wordpress.com? If so, I can confirm that the subscription is not active anymore and you will not be charged for its renewal in February.

    Thank you! But please check https://jrfoley.com, too, to be sure there is not still a Personal or PRemium subscription attached to it. Last spring I moved https://jrfoley.com, both domain and website, to SquareSpace.

    We don’t see any active mapping or plans associated with that domain, and we don’t see any active upgrades associated with this account.

    Are you getting renewal emails? If so can you let us know what email address they’re being sent to so we can look it up that way?

    If you’ll type it here it will be hidden from public view so only staff can see it. And we can use that to look for more information.

    This is good news. No, I’m not getting renewal emails (yet!). (The only email addresses WordPress uses are (email visible only to moderators and staff) and (email visible only to moderators and staff).) It probably means all I have to do to complete removal from WordPress is to delete the free website and close the account. What you tell me reassures me that no automatic renewals of either Personal or Premium subscriptions are now scheduled.
