Cancellation of domain name
-
I purchased a domain name when I registered with WordPress. Then I realized I had other needs. WordPress allows cancellation of domain name registration within 48 hours, as I did.
Now I need to use the domain name with a different registrar but the name is currently marked as “in use” and there are no owner attached to it.
Is there a time frame I need to wait or is there something WordPress needs to do in order to release it?

Hi there,
The first part of this topic should help: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/cancel-domain/
Just to quote the relevant bit:
After cancellation, there is no guarantee the domain will become available to register somewhere else and you may not be able to get it back.
It seems as though this is the case here – the domain may not have been re-released, and you may not be able to register it elsewhere – hope that helps.

Hi @pandosme: Our registrar can take up to a week to release a domain that was cancelled within two days of registration, although we can’t guarantee this. I recommend keeping an eye on the publicly available WHOIS information for your domain to see if it becomes available for registration again in around a week’s time:

Thank you for the answers. I will see if the name will become free soon. Sometimes you’ve got to learn the lesson the hard way…
