Cancellation of paid plan
-
I had a WordPress.com plan and moved to WordPress.org. I’d like a refund on what’s left of my money but can’t seem to find a contact centre number or chat to process this.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can request a refund for a WordPress.com upgraded plan via the “Manage Purchases” page if it is less than 30 days since you purchased it. https://en.support.wordpress.com/refunds/
-
Hi there,
I see that you purchased the plan in January and our refund policy is only for 30 days:
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!

I spoke with a happiness engineer when I was trying to make the change and I was told that I would get the remaining of my payment pro-ratad when I had done the transfer.
I was told to contact WordPress once I had done the transfer to WordPress.org
Please let me know what I need to do to get my money, thank you.

There is no such thing as a prorated refund here at WordPress.COM and there never has been one.
Refunds https://en.support.wordpress.com/refunds/ are time limited.
- WordPress.com provides a 30-day refund on all upgrades except Domain Registrations, Domain Renewals, and Guided Transfers.
- The refund period for Domain Registrations and Renewals is 48 hours.
- It takes from 1 – 2 weeks or 7 – 10 business days for the refund to be received.

I am trying to create add a plugin so I can have a coming soon page and I can’t seem to find how to add a plugin. I have a premium plan and I wanted to know if I can convert my wordpress.com site to a wordpress.org site. If I can, do I need to pay again as I only just got the plan at the end of January?WP.comFri, Apr 7, 8:46 PM
Hey there! I’m happy to help out with this.bunmioduahFri, Apr 7, 8:47 PM
okay, thank youWP.comFri, Apr 7, 8:47 PM
As it seems like you’ve correctly figured out, we don’t allow for plugin installations on WordPress.com sites – but if you self-host with a WordPress.org site, you can use any plugins you’d like.bunmioduahFri, Apr 7, 8:47 PM
okayWP.comFri, Apr 7, 8:47 PM
If you’re still working on your site, and don’t want visitors to see the content yet, you can set the site to “Private.”WP.comFri, Apr 7, 8:48 PM
I know that isn’t quite the same as a “Coming Soon” page that a plugin might provide.bunmioduahFri, Apr 7, 8:48 PM
okay, but I would like a coming soon pageWP.comFri, Apr 7, 8:49 PM
You can alternatively set the homepage to be a static page that has your “coming soon” content on it, then mark everything else on the site as private until you’re ready.bunmioduahFri, Apr 7, 8:49 PM
and i’d like to do certain things with my themes which reading on this, I can’t seem to do on wordpress.combunmioduahFri, Apr 7, 8:49 PM
that’s more like a bandaid fix :)bunmioduahFri, Apr 7, 8:50 PM
what are my options for switching to wordpress.org?WP.comFri, Apr 7, 8:50 PM
Sure thing! I don’t want to hold your site hostage if we can’t offer what you need. :)WP.comFri, Apr 7, 8:50 PM
We have an entire site dedicated to your situation: https://move.wordpress.com/bunmioduahFri, Apr 7, 8:50 PM
I am assuming you are the same companyWP.comFri, Apr 7, 8:50 PM
Not quite. :)WP.comFri, Apr 7, 8:51 PM
WordPress.org is the free software that powers WordPress.comWP.comFri, Apr 7, 8:51 PM
They were both created by the same person, but are separate entities.bunmioduahFri, Apr 7, 8:51 PM
okay, so if I move, I have to start all over again? and lose the money I have paid?WP.comFri, Apr 7, 8:53 PM
You’d start over, but we offer some tools for backing up your site. That would make it easier to put it back together at another host.WP.comFri, Apr 7, 8:53 PM
If you ultimately decide to switch from WordPress.com to a self-hosted (DIY) installation elsewhere, we can also issue a pro-rated refund.WP.comFri, Apr 7, 8:53 PM
We won’t bill you for something you aren’t using. :)bunmioduahFri, Apr 7, 8:53 PM
okay, but what about the cost?I have paid for a planbunmioduahFri, Apr 7, 8:53 PM
okaybunmioduahFri, Apr 7, 8:54 PM
Can I do the move myself if I follow the guide you just sent me?WP.comFri, Apr 7, 8:55 PM
You absolutely can, and we encourage doing it yourself; that’s the best way to learn more about WordPress.WP.comFri, Apr 7, 8:55 PM
We do offer a guided transfer if you decide to go that route, but I wouldn’t suggest it unless you need it – since it’s a paid service.bunmioduahFri, Apr 7, 8:56 PM
okay. what would I need to do get started? just follow the guide? and when I do, would I get the refund automatically?WP.comFri, Apr 7, 8:56 PM
You’d follow the guide, but would need to contact us once the move is complete, and you’re ready to discontinue your service here with us. We’d end the service at the same time as issuing the pro-rated refund.bunmioduahFri, Apr 7, 8:56 PM
okay, thank you for letting me knowbunmioduahFri, Apr 7, 8:57 PM
that makes me less worriedbunmioduahFri, Apr 7, 8:57 PM
thought I was going to lose all my moneyWP.comFri, Apr 7, 8:57 PM
No worries at all, we’re a nice company and value our users – even if they decide that moving on to a self-hosted setup is the best solution for them.WP.comFri, Apr 7, 8:57 PM
:)bunmioduahFri, Apr 7, 8:58 PM
that’s great to hear, thank you :)WP.comFri, Apr 7, 8:58 PM
You’re welcome! Let us know if we can help with anything else :)bunmioduahFri, Apr 7, 8:58 PM
okay, thank you for your helpThanks for flying with WordPress.com

I wonder where details of pro-rata refunds appear in the WordPress.com support docs as even staff-doublebassd appears unaware of this, and he’s staff?
-
-
Indeed. Enquiring minds want to know exactly where this pro-rated refunds is written and when such a policy came into being. Following.
Search results in the support docs came up empty and the same happened here https://en.blog.wordpress.com/?s=pro-rated+refunds -
Hey there,
The policy that I mentioned is still the current policy – we do not issue pro rated refunds. The associate you spoke with was in error and I addressed that with them. We apologize for that misinformation.
-
If I had known that, I won’t have done the transfer over and would have used it. It’s not like I have £84 to throw around. Please can someone contact me directly and away from this forum? And how can I reinstate my plan? Because I am not throwing money away.
-
Yes, I can contact you away from the forum – I’ll shoot you an email.
Again, apologize for the inconvenience.
Thanks!
