Cancelled domain

  Hi,

  I’ve just cancelled my domain, as I’d like to buy it elsewhere e.g Squarespace. I’ve found WordPress too difficult to work with and I can’t find any themes I like (designers also don’t seem to sell themes for WordPress.com sites).

  Anyway, I’ve been reading previous threads, and it seems the domain will be available for purchase again (with any host) within 5 days. Is this still true? I cancelled it on the same day I purchased it.

  Please let me know if it will be possible. I don’t want to lose the domain altogether.

  I am sorry you couldn’t find your desired theme. Given your site requirements, WordPress.com can offer range of themes https://wordpress.com/support/themes/choose-a-theme/#find-a-theme to choose from and upgrade plans to add more features and functionalities. https://wordpress.com/pricing/

  I am afraid if a cancelled domain could be available to purchase again. You are right, once a domain is canceled, there is a short window of 5 days during which time you can renew the domain at the regular price. Please go read through this document to retain the same domain

  Good news is you can still restore it and have it transferred to your desired host. https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/transfer-domain-registration/

  Thank you for your response, especially during the holidays!

  Do you know if the domain will be available to purchase again elsewhere, after the 5 days? (Outside of WordPress, without me restoring it here?)

  I’d like it restored on WordPress, if that’s the only option. However, since I want to join Squarespace, it seems like there’ll be extra costs to transfer it. So I’d rather wait the 5 days and buy the domain again using Squarespace. I just want to make sure the domain will be put back on the market after 5 days.

  As for the domain availability, I cannot guarantee that your domain will ever be available to you again once canceled. Since you wish to use the same domain name, I suggest that you do not choose to cancel.

  You are right. Newly registered and canceled domains are usually available to register again around 5 days after canceling. If that’s what you prefer, you can wait 3 more days and register your domain with your new host directly.
