  hello
  I need help with a blog hosted on WordPress, domain registered on Godaddy. Although we still own the domain it has unfortunately expired and we are now asked to pay a redemption fee to retrieve it. However we would like to move the blog to a new domain which we already bought. Can this be done without first ‘redeeming’ the old domain ?
  The greatest problem seems to be, I cannot access the admin page of the blog as I usually do that via http://www.domainname.it/wp-admin/
  So: is there a way to log into the dashboard even if the domain is currently inactive, in order to reconfigure the DNS to the new domain we wish to use?

  Hi there!

  To clarify, there are three different “WordPress” at play here:

  1. The free, open-source WordPress software which powers your website.
  2. WordPress.org which is the open-source project that works on the WordPress software and where you can get the software for free to use on your own hosting provider.
  3. WordPress.com which is a managed hosting provider of the WordPress software and with whom you’re contacting now.

  Was domainname.it the domain you used or was it a different domain? If you can let us know what domain your site was using previously we’ll be better able to advise.
