Cancelled domain available again
-
When you cancel a domain in WP it can take weeks and it may not be released again. Does anyone know if it usually becomes available again? And if so, how long does it take?
Thanks

If you are asking about old-site.wordpress.com – they become available sometime after the 12th of Never – that is deleted blog names are not recycled at WordPress.COM – once deleted they are gone forever

Yes… it was in wordpress.com
I cancelled it 1 month ago and each time I check if it’s available again it appears as “pending delete” not available.. -
This might be your lucky day, if it is really pending, maybe the staff can cancel the pending delete.
What is the blog name / domain name you need help with?
I have flagged this for the staff to help

That is a custom domain name that is in Redemption after not being renewed. Domain names that are not renewed go through a formal delete / auction process and the name may or may not be able to be retrieved for you. If it revert to the wild, anyone can purchase it and sometimes registrars put the domain name up for auction and the name can be purchased by a squatter and held hostage.
The staff can let you know what your options are, they vary depending on how long it has been since the renewal lapsed

After not being renewed? I bought it in September/October and cancelled it in December…
Anyways, probably the best is to go for “.es” and that’s it… But thanks again for all the info!

When a domain has been cancelled, there is no guarantee that it will become available again afterwards, which is why we warn users of those risks up front. It looks like our domain registrar partner has decided not to release the domain and may be putting it up for auction via the redemption process.
It’s still possible that the domain will be released eventually, but once we cancel it, it’s out of our control.
