Cancelled domain mapping but now what?
-
Hi,
I recently transferred my custom domain (gratefulheartdesign.com) from wordpress.com to a local registrar. While I still had the domain registered with wordpress.com, it was being mapped to point to my tumblr blog. However, I have since built my own website which I am hosting with GitHub pages. Therefore, after transferring my custom domain to the new registrar, I wanted to map this domain to my new site. I configured the DNS settings with my registrar to point to my new site. I also cancelled the domain mapping I had on WordPress.com.
According to my domain registrar, the new settings have propagated. However, when I attempt to access my website at gratefulheartdesign.com, I get a message that says a domain mapping upgrade is not found for this blog.
Did I do something wrong before I cancelled the domain mapping? Please advise. I want to remove the domain from wordpress.com completely and go my merry way with my new domain registrar and site.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
I can confirm that the domain, gratefulheartdesign.com, was transferred away from WordPress.com and is not connected to us in any way any more.
If the domain is still trying to redirect you to us, the problem could be in your browser. Clearing your browser cache should fix that.

Thank you for the quick response.
Clearing the cache has not fixed it. I am testing it across multiple browsers, and each one yields the same result.
After I did the domain transfer, I still somehow had Domain Mapping enabled on my WordPress.com account, and it was still pointing to my tumblr blog.
I found it odd that it should work, considering that the domain was not registered with WordPress.com anymore. However, it was convenient at the time so I left it.
I only cancelled that domain mapping today.
Do you think it can be just a matter of time until this problem clears and maps to my own site?

I only cancelled that domain mapping today.
Did you also only change the name servers today? Name server changes can take up to 72 hours to complete, so that delay could explain what’s going on.

The transfer was completed weeks ago, but yes I only changed the name servers today.
Everything looks right on my registrar’s side, but I understand if it will take longer in general.
I will check again after 72 hours. I’ll let you know if there is still a problem then.
Thank you very much.

Hi there,
Just following up on this. It looks like your domain’s name servers have finished updating, but it’s not showing any site for me now. Most likely you will also need to do something at your new web host to connect the domain on their side, like you needed the mapping upgrade on ours. Their support will be the best place to get help with that.

Thank you very much.
I did configure the nameservers on their end but maybe I did something wrong. I will follow it up with them.
