Cancelled domain, now it's unavailable
-
I registered a domain with WORDPRESS.COM, but realized I needed to create my website with wordpress.ORG, so I cancelled my entire bundle, cancelling the upgrade for $99 and the domain.
When I attempted to register it with Hostgator, it says it is taken! I read that you have to wait an ENTIRE year, but I don’t have / want to wait that long. It’s absurd!
Is there anyway I can fix this? Please please help!

Flagged for the staff – maybe they can retrieve the domain name – what is the domain name you registered?
Domain names can take from a few days to 60 days to revert back to the wild, depending on when and how they were canceled.
You could have just pointed the name servers to Host gator, so there was no need to cancel the registration

Hi there – Good news! Our registrar was able to restore your domain. I’ve emailed you a payment request for the $26 cost of the domain. You can use your domain with your HostGator site by pointing its name servers there, as described here:
Change Name ServersLet me know if you need help with that!

I didn’t want it restored, is that the only way? So I have to pay both wp and hostgator now?
-
You have to pay for the domain, and you have to pay WP because WP is the one that restored it for you. You can, however, transfer registrars after 60 days.

Hi there – I thought you wanted it restored? I’m sorry if you didn’t. I can cancel it again and you can wait for it to be released and purchase it through HostGator, or you can just register it here, point it to HostGator, and then any time after 60 days transfer it entirely.
