Cancelled hosting with Hostgator, site goes to default setting – help please?

On the 9th/10th October, I signed up with Hostgator, in bid to self-host. Found out that I didn’t like it enough for me to continue using it so I decide to cancel it yesterday 12th October. In the self-hosted wordpress, I have changed my theme to a default theme, seeing that the migration they did messed it up.They have sent an email to confirm that the request has been received and that it will be deleted etc. I have replied confirming my firm interests in cancelling it.

I have gone back to WordPress.com and changed my DNS to ns1.wordpress.com but finding that my website have gone awry. What I would like to know is, my website foliobylisa.com , until its cancelled at hostgator, I won’t be able to make changes to themes/post on wordpress.com? In my wordpress dashboard, I see the theme I am using which is Oxygen but that’s not shown on foliobylisa.com

    I appreciate some clarification please.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Lisa,

You can always access your WordPress.com site’s dashboard at http://foliobylisa.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

For your domain name, anytime you make changes to a domain or DNS, like a nameserver, it can take several hours for those changes to be updated Internet-wide by the way domain names work. After making the change, it can take anywhere from 2 to 12 hours usually for everyone to see the changes. In extreme cases, the spec allows it to take 72 hours, though it has been a very long time since I’ve seen that happening.

Looking at your domain, I’m seeing your WordPress.com site. If you’re still having any problems or need anything else, please let me know.

Hope you had a good weekend.

    Hi Kraftbj,

It took over 72 hours for me and now it’s finally up. Thank you though, for replying to this. Most grateful for reaching out kraft! I will close this topic.

Regards and have a great week ahead,
    Lisa

  • Yikes! While it took longer than we’ve seen, I’m glad it’s working now. If you need anything else, please do let us know. Thanks and have a great week too.

    Cheers!
