Cancelled my domain, but i want to register it again

I’ve cancelled my domain through worpress.com because I wanted to do wordpress.org. When will my domain name become available to register at another site? Its been almost a week.

About 3 or 4 days actually
Maybe in a week or two – maybe never – a Registrar is under no obligation to release a name back into the wild – sometimes they keep it for their own account, might be auctioned off, might be bought by a squatter and held for ransom, might be someone else buys the domain name
Canceling a domain name that you want is never a good idea
