Cancelled The Domain But Still Not Available
-
Hi! I already cancelled my domain and want to register it with a different provider. Its been 24 hours and still unavailable. Please help!
-
When you cancel a domain it can take several days before it’s available again. Wait for Staff to reply.

Hey there,
@staartmees is right. You canceled the domain within 5 days of registering it, so it should be available again soon. Once a domain name is deleted by the registry at this stage, it is immediately available for registration by any registrant through any Registrar, and that happens shortly after the 5 day grace period. We can immediately restore the domain for you within that 5 day period, but after that, we no longer have control over it. So, depending on where you want to register the domain (with us or elsewhere), you should decide ASAP on how you want it re-registered. You can always point the domain over to your host from WordPress.com until 60 days of registration hits (where you can transfer the domain anywhere you please). That will at least guarantee you will get it back without any potential complications. Let me know.
Thanks,

Hi darnelldibbles, please check my account for me, the site is under GameZPh. I have cancelled it less than 10 minutes after purchasing the domain on March 25 but until today the site is still unavailable on the domain server where I want to register it to.
As per Whois.com, my site is still registered under Word Press and wont be available until next year? Does that mean that, that information is wrong and it should only take 5 days after cancellation for the site to available again and I can register it on any domain server I like?
Thank you so much for the reply.

Hi there,
The whois in this case won’t be correct, but I can confirm that it’s just in a 5 day waiting period that happens after you cancel a brand new domain.
after purchasing the domain on March 25
Please check again on March 30, roughly around the same time you registered.
OR, if you need it right now, we can also restore it here and you can point it to the other service, then transfer after the 60 day new-domain lock.
Let us know what you prefer.
-
Oh, and I failed to mention, if we restore it here we will need to send an invoice for that. You could just re-buy the plan and we can refund all but the domain ($18), if you want to speed up the process. Just let us know what you want to do.

Hi @supernovia, I would prefer for the site to be available. I can wait for the 5 days as long as we are sure that after 5 days WordPress would make the site available.
I really appreciate you confirming that the site will be available around March 30, 2021 and that Whois.com wont be correct at this time for the estimation of 1 year. That made me feel calm I was really shock to see the 1 year you know. :)
I will update you back here on March 30, hope it can be available in the market again so I can claim the site on a different domain server. Then I would design the site here in wordpress and connect the domain that I purchase from different server this way I wont have to wait for 60 days transfer.
Thank you.

Jeremy G. CoP.S, this is the right account that was link to the domain that I cancelled until now money hasnt been refunded.

Howdy,
I’m seeing a refund as having been processed on 2021-03-25. So you should be all set. Please keep in mind that while many refunds show up withing 24-48 hours, it is not unusual for them to take up to 7-10 days. And in rare cases, typically with non USA banks, even longer.
One thing worth checking is that sometimes when a purchase is made and a refund processed that same day (as yours was on 2021-03-25) , banks don’t actually run a refund. They just cancel the transaction out as if it never happened. You’ll need to check with your financial institution to see if that is the case here.
Let us know if anything is unclear or you have any further questions.

Hi staff-ozmodiar, I just went to my bank and as per them there was no refund process that they can see, and the money was send to the receiver successfully which is WordPress. Would it be possible for WordPress to provide me with a reference number for the refund? or transaction #? that I can use to track the refund? Since its way past 10 days already since my domain was cancelled last March 25.
Hoping for soonest action to this matter.
Thanks,
Jeremy -
Hi Jeremy,
I checked it for you, and it looks like this particular refund was processed as a reversal.
This means the refund was issued before the original charge settled with the bank, so the original charge should have simply disappeared from your bank statement without a refund being issued.
Please check your statement to see if the original issue is still there, and in case of doubts, reach back to your bank for more details.
The transaction ID can be found at https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/billing.

Hi staff-mckluskey, Have double check my account statement and charge is there. I have also communicated with my bank confirmed that charge was established to my account and there is no refund been processed.
Is there a way for us to check if the account that word press sent the refund to is the right account? Is it the same account were the money was taken.
Is there a way for us to escalate this matter? as until now I haven’t received the refund yet and its already pass 10 business since cancellation of the domain was made. It’s just really frustrating.
Thank you,
Jeremy -
Hi Jeremy,
As staff-mckluskey mentioned, the refund was processed as a reversal, so that’s why it isn’t reflected on your statement.
For your bank to be able to identify the reversal you need to send them the transaction ID that’s on the refund receipt. You can find that receipt here:
