Cancelling a domain – when will the URL be available again?

    I recently deleted one of my WordPress blogs, which came with a personalised .com URL that I chose. I cancelled on the same day I subscribed for the 14 day trial. From doing research, I learned that I won’t be charged for the £85 annual fee, and as long as it’s not been over two days, there won’t be a £15 for the URL registration.

    A page on WordPress explained that in some cases, a cancelled URL may never be available again, though some are available after a period of time. From experience, does anyone know how long that usually takes?

    I have a few suspicions on when…
    1- I’m aware that there is a 60 day period where URLs cannot be transferred, so that may be the time it will take.
    2- On the other hand, given that the URL was registered for a year, perhaps it will be a year before it is available again to be registered.
    3 – The third outcome, of course, could be that it will never be available for registration again.

    I was just wondering if anyone has been in this situation before, and noticed when the URL has become available again, if at all?

    Be aware that no domain name registrar has to offer any domain URL for sale. They own it and can do whatever they want with it.
