Cancelling a not-purchased domain name
-
Hello,
To be honest, I was only checking how WordPress works before choosing which way I am going to put a website online. Now I would like to cancel this domain name, but it is not possible because I did not commit myself to a purchase yet. I would like to take a look for other domain hosting ways, but the name I chose was already claimed by ‘myself’, but only for using WordPress. Is it possible to cancel the account/domain name so I can use it in another way?The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there @lexfilms,
Is the domain name you want to cancel lexfilms.wordpress.com?
Or, is there another domain name that you’ve purchased and linked your current WordPress.com blog? If you need help with a different domain please respond and post it here.
It sounds like you registered for the Free WordPress.com plan to test things out. This plan includes a free subdomain hosted by WordPress.com. (Which in your case is lexfilms.wordpress.com.)
Here’s the description from the WordPress.com pricing page:
Your site address will use a WordPress.com subdomain (sitename.wordpress.com).
Now that you’ve registered the subdomain for your blog, no one else will be able to use it. You can delete it, but please be aware:
Deleting a site permanently removes it and you’ll never be able to re-use its WordPress.com address (such as yourgroovysite.wordpress.com).
You can, however, transfer the site to another account here in WordPress.com. Or, even set it to private so it cannot be viewed by the public.
I don’t know what new way you want to use the site. So, please take a few minutes to check out the Support page for Delete Site to review the options available.
If you need additional help please let us know! We’ll be happy to point you in the right direction.
